Chapter 126: 126: Next Option
She knew.
Eden knew that fact for sure. He knew that Queen Elizabeth knew what he was talking about and beyond.
But he also knew that she wasn’t one that was willing to speak about it. No matter what.
As though she was hiding something. As though she was sealing off the information. Eden could read through her reactions.
"Is that so? I guess I overestimated you then" He smiled "Because for a while I actually thought you were friends with them. And maybe you might have an idea on how they ended up like that"
"You do flatter me then. Because I’m not as smart and knowledgeable as you suggest" she said as she got up to her feet.
It was clear she wanted to escape. She didn’t wish to spend more time there with Eden. And Eden could tell.
Eden could tell she was running.
He also knew that she wouldn’t speak even if he used up all the tricks he prepared for today. She was tight-lipped.
She was too calm about it even though he could tell it bothered her. And being calm was only a sign that she wouldn’t spill any tea.
Eden guessed he’d have to let her off and take the other route to finding the truth.
"If there’s nothing, I guess I’ll be taking my leave then" She said as she turned and left.
With her gone, Eden sat there alone. Thinking.
That was a failure. He knew he wouldn’t get anything from her even if he tried harder.
She had a secret she was willing to keep. And she wouldn’t easily tell anyone, talk more of someone like him.
He had to use magic to find out more. That was the only logical answer at the moment.
And so Eden retired back to his room and reported the results to Lenny.
Lenny saw that coming. He could already tell that Eden wouldn’t get much from Queen Elizabeth.
And so the two of them were left wondering how they would find Felix.
He hasn’t visited for a while now. And it was pretty obvious that they needed him if they wanted to use magic.
But he was nowhere to be seen at the moment.
*********
Elvis sat down in bed, having the meal Mr George had brought in for him.
Mr George sat there by his side, watching him eat while reporting back to him the result of all he had ordered him to find out.
"So what did she say? What did Helen say? When are we meeting up...?" Elvis asked, curious.
Mr George hesitated. He was wondering if he should tell him about what he got or not. "Well...that..."
"What?" Elvis demanded "What’s it? Tell me"
Mr George hesitated but decided to speak anyway "She said...that she doesn’t wish to see you again.."
Elvis was confused for a while "Huh? What? Why...?"
"She said... that she doesn’t have time to play around with you anymore. And that she hopes that you can respect her and not bother her anymore..."
Elvis blinked at Mr George’s words.
He was confused and shocked. He couldn’t believe Helen had said those words to him.
He knew she still didn’t like him. And still haven’t accepted him. But she had never pushed him away directly nor said those words.
So it came as a surprise hearing it from Mr George "Are you sure about what you’re saying..?"
"I am" Mr George assured "Those were her words. I wouldn’t dare lie to you"
Elvis sat there for a while. Staring into their air, thoughts running through his head.
"What’s wrong with her. Why did she say that...?" He thought. He wondered what made he conclude such and why she was now actively pushing him away.
"And also...I also found something else..." Mr George said.
"And what’s it? Speak" Elvis demanded.
"A while back, she was seen together with the Grand Marquis of Avalon"
"Huh?" Elvis was shocked.
"He seemed to have brought her home from somewhere. No one knew what they were speaking about, but that was what was seen. The two of them came back together from somewhere"
Mr George reported as Elvis silently sat there in bed. He had no clear reactions.
He casually sat there staring at his meal. "It’s probably my fault. I was too busy to be around her. It’s my fault.." he mumbled.
"Don’t say that. You had important things to handle. So it wasn’t your fault at all" Mr George stated.
"Sure" Elvis nodded "Important things"
He didn’t know how he was going to approach Helen next. He had decided that he’d give it some time.
And maybe when he had gotten rid of Eden, he’d have more time to spend with her.
"And what of the poison? It still hasn’t taken effect on her?" Elvis asked.
Mr George shocked his head "Strangely nothing has happened to her. There has been no observation of her being sick or whatever which makes it all strange"
Elvis paused. "How’s that possible... didn’t he say he poisoned her? Why is nothing happening?"
Mr George hesitated "What if he actually didn’t poison her? What if he said all that just to threaten you. And use you"
He suggested and Elvis found himself thinking it through. "You might actually have a point.."
"I have a feeling that it’s all part of his plan" Mr George added "And you might have fallen for it by accepting his deal"
"I didn’t accept his deal because of that" Elvis said "I didn’t do it because of Helen. I did it... For myself and my family.." Elvis words came stern.
As though he was trying to prove a point. As though he was trying to convince himself.
"So then, what do you plan on doing now that you’ve found out that he might actually be fooling you?" Mr George asked.
Elvis hesitated. He thought about how Eden had possibly orchestrated the whole thing. How he had possibly used him and all.
But all he could say was "Nothing"
