Chapter 189: Illness

Chapter 189: 189: Illness

"I’m more than sure," Mr. Hugo said with a calm confident smile.

He explained further, "Just before coming, he coughed blood, and it appears his condition is going to get critical this evening. Based on my observations of him for a long time now, whenever he coughs blood, it always gets bad."

Marquis Dean nodded.

He continued, "And to make sure it gets worse beyond repair, I gave him some poisonous medicine to worsen his illness instead of his medicine. And I’m sure the poison will take effect tonight."

Mr. Hugo added, "So I’m sure he won’t be able to fight the attack tonight. He doesn’t have any backup plans, because if he does I’d know. But he didn’t, while believing all the soldiers he came with will fight for him."

"Then that’s good. Because tonight the great and powerful Adrian will be taken down. And I’ll have to be made the new Grand Marquis." He smiled. "That proud bastard will be brought to an end."

"I’ll support you all through it, just hoping that you’ll keep your words once it’s achieved," Mr. Hugo smiled softly.

"Don’t worry. If that bastard is killed off and I am made a Grand Marquis, then you’ll get all the riches and glory you crave."

In the Kingdom of Valencrest, only one Grand Marquis is acknowledged. The rest are marquises. And Adrian has that position of the Grand Marquis, and at a very young age.

The youngest amongst them, therefore gathering hate and disapproval from the older generation who want to pull him down. And Marquis Dean isn’t any different. He has been planning this for years now.

And Eden, who stood at the back of these soldiers, couldn’t help but gasp.

He couldn’t believe what he was hearing. And he couldn’t believe Adrian’s most trusted person, Mr. Hugo, could do something like this to him.

This was insane. It was unspeakable! And Eden was more than sure that this wasn’t in the freaking novel—or he hadn’t gotten there yet.

In the book, Mr. Hugo is the only person Adrian trusts so much. He took him as a father figure since he was an orphan who had to bear the harsh responsibility of handling a Grand March on his own while also taking care of his younger brother. So he took Mr. Hugo as family since he had been with him all through it.

But who could have thought that Mr. Hugo would be the one to betray him? Eden certainly didn’t see it coming.

And at this point, he wondered what the hell this book was becoming!

While he stood there, trying to keep his cool and not get exposed, he continued listening to what they were discussing while also thinking of what to do afterward.

"Where are the dancers?" Marquis Dean asked.

"They’re also here." Mr. Hugo turned and introduced some group of ladies all dressed in prostitute attires.

They were all in a red dress, a red veil over their heads, and a red piece of veil around their mouths. Only their eyes could be seen—their seductive eyes.

Their bodies were partially exposed, their stomachs showing along with their hands. Their attires were really provocative but were just right for the brothel.

"The dancers are all skilled and will execute what is asked of them flawlessly. I’ve trained them to do so," Mr. Hugo said. "The Grand Marquis Adrian is a lover of women, so he’ll surely fall into their traps."

Marquis Dean smiled, nodding. "Of course. The bastard known for spending his time with ladies and drinking. Of course he’ll fall for this. He can’t resist. And we’ll use it to kill him off."

Marquis Dean cleared his throat as he said, "That bastard has been keeping the whole world in the dark about his terminal illness. Because he knows that if word gets out that he’s seriously ill, he’ll face danger."

"Exactly," Mr. Hugo said. "I’m the only one who knows about it and have been looking for a means to use it against him. I guess the time has come."

Mr. Hugo added, "His illness is one that will kill him in no time. That’s probably why he wants to meet the Emperor and make a request after killing the Wizard of El."

"And what request does that bastard want to make from the Emperor? What’s the request that he can’t meet the Emperor casually and tell him? Why does he need the Wizard of El’s head for it?" Marquis Dean questioned as Mr. Hugo shook his head.

"I’m afraid I don’t even know about it. It must be something extremely personal and important to him that he didn’t even tell me. But I can already feel that it’s like he wants a replacement for him soon. One he will choose himself and not from the other marquises. And I have a feeling it might even be his younger brother..." Mr. Hugo said.

"How bold and shameless of that bastard to think he can keep the lineage of Grand Marquis running for him. How naive, because I’ll snatch it. And his younger brother? What does that useless one know? He’s not even fit to be a soldier, talk more of a Grand Marquis. That weakling," Marquis Dean scoffed, his chin up.

"I thought as much. But we’ll have to see. But I think it doesn’t matter, because with the knowledge of his illness, we can kill him off before he makes a move," Mr. Hugo added.

"That’s by the way. Because he won’t even be surviving after tonight. He has already come to meet his doom," Marquis Dean said as he turned to the ladies. "We’re already wasting too much time. Have them all set for action and get everything running in motion," he said. "Tonight, we’ll be taking down that Grand Marquis by all means. He’s not escaping it alive."

Mr. Hugo bowed with a smile. "He doesn’t stand a chance of survival. Not even a little.
