Chapter 165 The Selection

"In my mind, a maiden is pure and clean, so this dress is mainly white. The puff sleeves are like blooming flowers, and the intricate patterns of wisteria and roses spread across the hem and waist, giving it a sacred feel."

Shi Xinxin listened attentively to Qiaoqiao's words and nodded, "Just hearing you describe it, I can already picture it."

"But have you thought about what kind of fabric would do this dress justice?"

If the fabric were too simple or too heavy, it wouldn't be able to support the large floral patterns and the cut-outs at the back. It would completely contradict Qiaoqiao's design concept.

Therefore, choosing the right fabric for the dress had become a point that needed careful consideration.

Qiaoqiao was taken aback. She had only been working for a few months, and in the design department before, she was practically invisible. She had never had the chance to deal with finished garments or fabrics. At most, she had only seen high-end fabrics in magazines, but she truly knew nothing about them.

Seeing Qiaoqiao's bewildered expression, Shi Xinxin understood the situation. She smiled, "You probably haven't worked with fabrics before, so you're not very familiar with this aspect. Why don't I help you choose?"

Qiaoqiao quickly nodded, eager for the help, "General Manager Shi, your taste has always been impeccable. The fabric you choose will undoubtedly be the most suitable for this design sketch."

Shi Xinxin had already had some preliminary choices in mind when she asked about the fabric, and they proved useful at this moment.

"Have you heard of thin silk? It's as pure as jade, smooth and almost transparent. The fabric isn't too soft, and it can support the cut-outs and patterns you've designed," Shi Xinxin said with interest.

Qiaoqiao had a vague understanding of these things. She recalled seeing the fabric Shi Xinxin mentioned in a magazine by chance, but she didn't know much about it. She slowly nodded, "I've seen introductions to this material, but only snippets. I don't know much about it yet."

Shi Xinxin waved her hand, "It's fine. Every designer starts somewhere, right?"

She typed a few words into the search bar on the computer. Once the page loaded, she turned the computer towards Qiaoqiao, indicating, "Look, the company's internal system has very detailed fabric introductions. You can first look at what I mentioned, or explore other fabrics. The choice is entirely yours."

"Ah?" Qiaoqiao was stunned by Shi Xinxin's words. "I have the right to choose the fabric?"

She only knew that in her previous internship company, the fabrics and craftsmanship were decided by the company. Designers, after completing their sketches and giving the final approval on the finished product, had little other work.

She never expected that here, she would have the right to choose the fabric!

Shi Xinxin smiled, "This isn't that unusual. I trust you, which is why I'm leaving the fabric selection entirely to you. Do you understand? Because you are the designer of this dress, you understand the feel and comfort of the garment best. Therefore, I believe you are more suited to choose the fabric."

Qiaoqiao gradually smiled and nodded heavily, taking a deep, responsible breath, "I will definitely choose the fabric that best suits the sketch!"

Shi Xinxin gestured for her to look at the screen. Qiaoqiao carefully pulled up a chair and sat down, then intently began looking at the fabrics on the platform.

She wasn't very familiar with some of the specialized terminology related to fabrics. Shi Xinxin patiently guided her one by one, until Qiaoqiao's gaze grew more confident and brighter.

"So that's how it is! These backup materials are so comprehensive; they even clearly state the origin of the fabric!" Qiaoqiao exclaimed excitedly.

Shi Xinxin also smiled and looked at the screen where Qiaoqiao was focused, "Then take a good look, what fabric will you choose this time?"

Qiaoqiao cautiously glanced a few more times, and finally, her finger traced back to the interface where it had lingered for a long time.

She pointed at the screen, "I think this fabric is suitable in every aspect. Not only is it light and close-fitting, but its origin also aligns perfectly with the theme of the competition."

"Is that so?" Seeing Qiaoqiao's satisfied expression, Shi Xinxin also looked over.

She saw a familiar interface and suddenly smiled, "Qiaoqiao, why don't you scroll up and see the name of this fabric?"

"Ah?" Qiaoqiao didn't understand but did as she was told. She looked at the words "thin silk" and suddenly realized, "So this is the fabric you were talking about just now!"

Shi Xinxin nodded, as expected, "It seems we are truly fated. Not only do we have the same aesthetic, but our reasons for choosing this fabric are also the same."

Qiaoqiao looked at her with curious eyes, and she curved her lips, "The reason I recommended this fabric to you is because there's a legend about thin silk. It's said to be the special fabric of heavenly maidens, with every single thread spun from the clouds in heaven, light and sacred."

Qiaoqiao listened intently and nodded in agreement.

Shi Xinxin continued, "In the design circle, this fabric has another saying: it is said that once a garment incorporates this fabric, it will possess a completely unique beauty."

"How about it, do you want to give it a try?" Shi Xinxin turned the conversation back to Qiaoqiao.

"Ah, I think this fabric is very good, but I'm not sure if it fits..." Although Qiaoqiao was very pleased with the fabric, she was still a little nervous and hesitant to make a decision.

This time, they were directly creating a finished garment. With only a week to prepare, once the fabric was chosen, it would be impossible to change it later.

If this fabric turned out to be unsuitable for the design sketch, wouldn't Shi Xinxin and the entire company's efforts be in vain!

Qiaoqiao felt conflicted and troubled, needing to proceed with utmost caution in every step.

Shi Xinxin saw her worry about this aspect and said gently, "You need to make a decision soon. The production of a finished garment takes at least three days. If you continue to procrastinate like this, we might not even have a finished garment to present at the competition."

Shi Xinxin said this intentionally to nudge Qiaoqiao. It was precisely because she lacked experience in the workplace that she was hesitant to make decisions.

However, such indecisiveness would inevitably delay important matters. Therefore, Shi Xinxin wanted to change her nature early on.

As expected, Qiaoqiao's brow furrowed tightly with a hint of hesitation. "Then let's choose this fabric. I think it will be very suitable."

"Good."

With the decision made, Shi Xinxin took the computer and sent the chosen fabric to Yang Yue, asking her to arrange for it with the manufacturer.

Time passed by unknowingly. Qiaoqiao glanced out the window and noticed that the sky was gradually darkening. She quickly stood up, "General Manager Shi, it's getting late. I'll be heading back now. Please remember to go back early too."

"Alright, I'm just about to get off work. Let's go together." Shi Xinxin picked up her bag from the adjacent chair, slung it casually over her shoulder, and walked out of the office with Qiaoqiao, who was waiting for her.

"Oh, right. The design sketch is finalized now, so we need to start looking for models for the competition."
