Chapter 518: She Must Leave
Mengyu didn’t recognize the man who arrived late, but through Vice Town Chief Jing and Chairman Huang of the Women’s Federation, she was told, “This is the Anti-human trafficking office director, Shi Renxin.”
Dead stubbornness? Mengyu almost laughed out loud, hurriedly coughed to suppress her laughter, and turned her gaze to the girl who came in with the man.
That girl was none other than Jiang Huaiyu!
Mengyu felt it strange; although the thank-you banquet had turned into a celebration, giving all relevant personnel a legitimate excuse to attend,
it shouldn’t be expanded to the point where even unrelated individuals could participate.
Director Shi led Jiang Huaiyu directly into the private room—this table was reserved for the leaders.
Many people were seated at the leadership table: Deputy County Magistrate Wen and the office director, two people (the county head had spoken and then left), three leaders from the Public Security Bureau, two leaders from the Women’s Federation Youth Committee, two leaders from Damiang Town, along with Jiang Mengyu, who was forcefully brought by Deputy County Magistrate Wen; the table for ten was already fully occupied.
As soon as Director Shi arrived, he immediately reviewed, “I was receiving a victim of this trafficking case, hence my delay.”
Deputy County Magistrate Wen glanced at him and instructed, “Please sit down.” He then turned and spoke again to Vice Director Wu from the municipal bureau.
Director Shi immediately ordered the waiter in the owner’s manner, “Add two more stools and two sets of utensils.”
In fact, he was somewhat dissatisfied. As the director of the Anti-human trafficking office, he should ideally preside over a banquet celebrating the rescue of abducted women.
Yet, he wasn’t even notified!
He felt slighted and wanted to confront Deputy County Magistrate Wen, but the thought of arguing over a meal, appearing to fight over credit and food, forced him to hold back.
Fortunately, this girl found the Anti-human trafficking office, claiming her father was wrongfully accused.
Hearing it was related to this celebration banquet, he immediately brought her along.
Director Shi looked around, feeling that seating twelve people at one table was too crowded. Surveying everyone at the table, each individual appeared significant.
Finally, pointing to Mengyu sitting by the door, he said, “Give your seat to this young lady and move to the main hall.”
The seating arrangement in the private room was meticulous; generally, the host or main leader would sit diagonally opposite the door, then seating would continue down the sides. Those sitting by the door were typically the lowest in status among the attendees.
Usually, it was the leaders’ secretaries or the host’s attendant who sat there.
Seeing Mengyu by the door, Director Shi naturally assumed Mengyu was an attendant of someone, and thus directly ordered Mengyu to leave to provide a seat for Jiang Huaiyu.
Mengyu originally did not want to sit at this table. She was not accustomed to interacting with leaders, but Chairman Huang persuaded her, even offering her the main seat. However, she did not want to feel constrained inside, so she chose a seat by the door, thinking she could slip away at any time.
But now being asked to leave by Director Shi, she refused.
Pointing at Jiang Huaiyu, she said, “You want me to give up my seat for her?”
She could give up her seat for anyone, but how could she possibly give it up for Jiang Huaiyu, who killed her in a past life?
Jiang Huaiyu too noticed Jiang Mengyu, and was surprised. What was she doing here?
Her father, Jiang Haidong, had joined the Human Trafficking Group, of which she was well aware.
Moreover, she was involved in sending those girls to work in the coastal city, particularly Wang Huilan, whom she specifically had someone approach to convince to sign up.
