Capítulo 1612: 1529 May Be Out of Commission

A row of artillery shells landed on the position held by the Dwarf Troops, and before the smoke had cleared, the Tang Army tanks rolled over the Dwarven trenches, covering infantry as they broke through a Dwarf-held defensive line.

The Dwarf soldiers within the trenches shouted loudly, signaling the anti-tank gun at the side to fire, but there were only bodies and craters left there now.

The Tang Army soldiers cleared the trenches stubbornly held by the Dwarves using gun grenades. The opposing casualties were heavy, yet they showed no intention of retreating. Some Dwarf soldiers affixed bayonets to their rifles, shouting the Ura slogan, and charged toward the Tang Army.

But dense bullets flew towards them, and those Dwarf soldiers attempting to engage in hand-to-hand combat with the Tang Army fell in a large swath in an instant.

The ensuing Dwarf soldiers remained frenzied, continuously charging, and whenever possible, began throwing hand grenades at areas occupied by the Tang Army.

Frankly, their efforts did indeed produce results. So far, the casualties of the Tang Army have approached 2000. Even after losing the beachhead position, the Dwarves still caused considerable trouble for the Tang Army.

If everything proceeds according to Moss’s plan, and the Tang Army didn’t employ special forces for a surprise landing but followed the traditional landing tactics for attack, one can imagine the landing troops’ casualties would only be higher.

“Ura!” A Dwarf soldier clutching a hand grenade charged at the Tang Army. Although he was shot dead, the hand grenade in his hand still exploded, causing the nearby Tang Army to stumble.

For a moment, the chaotic scene made it impossible to tell whether the Dwarves were initiating an attack or humans were charging.

Unfortunately, during the Dwarves’ frenzied counterattack, the Type 96 main battle tank supporting the Tang Army’s offense stood between the two armies.

The remote-controlled machine gun atop the tank directly suppressed the advancing Dwarves, and the dense tracer bullets made the Dwarf Infantry unable to lift their heads.

“Go! Go! Go!” The Tang Country officer, having received reinforcements, loudly ordered, and Tang Army soldiers stepped over their comrades’ bodies, resuming the offensive.

“Tutu tutu!” The distant heavy machine guns began to cover the humans as they crossed over the trenches, tracer bullets flew above the soldiers’ heads, drawing arcs and falling into the Dwarf defensive positions.

As Tang Army soldiers charged one after another, within a bunker on the flank, a Dwarf machine gunner already aimed the dark muzzle at the Tang Army’s side.

“Die!” The Dwarf who had waited long pulled the trigger, the machine gun roared to life, a row of bullets knocked down the attacking Tang Army soldiers, blood splattered everywhere, within a moment, seven to eight Tang Army soldiers fell silent.

Realizing there was enemy ambush on their flank, the Tang Army immediately adjusted their aim, a grenade exploded near the Dwarf machine gun bunker, and the raised dust obscured vision, making the Dwarves behind the firing port shoot blindly.

The Tang Army soldiers who maneuvered around rapidly approached this bunker, thanks to the tank’s cover, the Dwarf trenches providing flank support for this bunker had already been occupied by the Tang Army.

Approaching the firing port from the side, a Tang Army soldier pulled the pin on a hand grenade, gesturing to a companion on the other side that he was about to toss a grenade.

Almost simultaneously, seeing the other party also pulling out a hand grenade and nodding, this grenadier tossed the hand grenade he held into the just-quiet firing port of the bunker.

Inside the bunker, the Dwarf shooter and the assistant shooter, who were in the process of reloading, saw a round object clinking down at their feet, soon followed by another grenade rolling in.

Looking down, they saw the hand grenade halted by an ammunition box, having stopped rolling. Before they could react, the grenade exploded in the cramped space.

The shockwave instantly filled the entire bunker, air rushed out through the firing port, and on the other side, the bunker’s well-camouflaged door was blown open by the shockwave, thick smoke billowing out.

The second hand grenade exploded immediately afterward, replaying what had just happened. As Tang Army soldiers rose from the ground, they charged into the bunker, shooting as soon as the rolling smoke hadn’t fully dissipated.

“Secure!” After everything came to a standstill, a Tang Army soldier raised his fist, signaling his comrades to cease fire. Inside the bunker lay the bodies of four Dwarf soldiers, scattered shell casings everywhere, along with ammunition boxes and some miscellaneous supplies.

“Medic! Medic! Someone’s wounded!” Outside the bunker, a Tang Army soldier knelt on one knee, checked the several comrades just gunned down, and shouted loudly.

A medic, burdened with plenty of medical supplies, hurried to the location and saw the wounded pierced by bullets, lying on the ground moaning continuously.

The tactical vests worn by Tang Army soldiers are equipped with bulletproof inserts, which offer some protection for the torso.

Therefore, many Tang Army soldiers were injured upon taking bullets, but very few actually died. Many Tang Army soldiers were hit in the arms and legs, bleeding heavily, appearing terrifying, but there were no fatal injuries.

But in such a situation, it also added to the Tang Army’s burdens—that wounded soldiers required aid and processing, transporting these wounded consumed a lot of time and effort, both are priceless on the battlefield.

Another medic came running, slid to a stop supporting the steel helmet on his head: “I’m here! I’m here! Anything you need help with?”

“Stop the bleeding! Stop the bleeding! First, stop the bleeding!” With hurried hands unpacking the bandage kit, the medic, without lifting his head, explained the situation: “That one’s not going to make it! Bad luck, got hit in the neck!”

Hearing the medic say this, the later-arrived medic glanced to the side. A young soldier lay there, his legs still twitching. His collar soaked in blood, evidently a bullet had penetrated an artery.

Although the other party was somewhat conscious, the gushing wound clearly showed the severity of the issue.

“Artillery! Artillery!” In the distance, it’s hard to tell if it was Dwarves or humans shouting, and along with the shout came the screeching descent of artillery shells.

“Boom! Boom!” One shell after another fell, raising dust that obscured the skies. Amid the artillery fire, the two medics, kneeling on one knee, continued to rescue the wounded, unmoved as if the shells contained sand.

“Tie tight!” Throwing aside his blood-covered hand, a medical soldier reminded his colleague. That colleague was exerting force as a flying shrapnel struck the medical supply bag on his chest, leaving behind a hole.

“Damn it! The spare gauze probably can’t be used.” Glancing at the hole only centimeters from his neck on the chest pouch, the medic angrily complained as he strained on the bandage.
