Chapter 35 Wolves attack.

Chapter 35: Chapter 35 Wolves attack.

He fumbled with his clothes, ruffled his hair, and tried to get back to his feet, but the realization that he had killed a poor girl made him crumble back to the floor.

This just wasn’t him. He was forced to do it—forced to protect himself. Right from childhood, he had been caged, abused by his parents just because he was an omega, and now he was trapped in a place as dangerous as this—an underworld of evil beasts that dared to call themselves human. He knew what would become of him if he was ever discovered by Adrian.

Gosh, the trauma that came with even imagining it gave him the chills.

Slumped there, he completely forgot about the impending danger until the ground shook, snapping him back to his senses.

The building had reached its limit. It was falling.

Daniel’s throat tightened as the bitter truth hit him. Despite all his efforts to save himself and protect his secret, look where he had ended up: in a death zone where there was no turning back, no escape. His only way out seemed to be death itself.

"Oh, I am so fucked. What do I do?" Daniel muttered, pacing as the steps of the building began breaking off, collapsing floor after floor, destroying everything in their path.

By now, he assumed the penthouse was empty—that he was the only one left to die here.

Then his eyes caught something. A rod. Another one, near the spot where Gianna had died.

It was long—so long it reached all the way down to the last flat. From the look of it, it must have fallen off when part of the building gave way. Either way, it was perfect for escape.

As if aware that one of its prisoners was trying to outrun fate, the building groaned, trembling violently. The collapse had begun.

Daniel didn’t wait. He jumped onto the rod and slid down, palms burning as he clung on desperately. The pain seared him, but he didn’t stop. The only advantage was that it got him down fast.

Landing hard on the ground, he stumbled into a nightmare. Blood everywhere. The floor was slick with crimson, littered with corpses and decapitated bodies—victims of the catastrophe.

Grimacing, he glanced at his hands. Angry red marks ran down to his thumbs, but at least the wounds weren’t too deep.

Still, there was no time to breathe. The building was crashing all around him. A gigantic block slammed close by, and the impact hurled Daniel several meters through the air until he landed on an open field.

All around him, people were running for their lives. Without hesitation, Daniel joined them, fighting for survival with everything he had.

This only proved his theory.

Coming to this place had been his greatest mistake. If he died here, survival would never have been assured anyway. The earthquake that followed the collapse was massive, splitting the ground open, swallowing people whole into cracks filled with deadly debris.

The unlucky ones who fell were killed brutally, and in that moment Daniel realized: the contract he had signed was his undoing.

If he escaped this, there was no way he would ever be bound to Adrian again. Let Adrian piss himself or burn for all he cared—he wouldn’t be tied down by a stupid paper ever again.

Driven by pure determination—and perhaps sheer grace—Daniel pushed on until he finally saw it: the maze.

Maybe help lay ahead, but they had forgotten one thing: how massive the maze was, and that Adrian kept wolves there to guard against enemies.

Now, only four survivors remained. Daniel, plus three others.

Even without words, he could tell they were all betas—trainees who had been fighting for a place among Adrian’s allies, only to meet their end like chickens in a slaughterhouse.

"Do any of you have an idea how to leave through this maze?" Daniel asked, desperate for answers.

At least with all their years of training, he expected they should know something.

One of the boys blinked in confusion. They were all brunettes, each wearing a pendant with a different number carved into it.

"I don’t understand your confusion. Don’t you all know this place?" Daniel pressed.

But all three shook their heads. None of them had ever ventured this far without getting killed.

Daniel scoffed.

Of course Adrian would restrain them. That was just who he was—if he wasn’t feared, then what else was he good for?

"So you don’t even have the slightest idea what lies ahead in this maze?" he asked again.

They shook their heads once more.

Useless. Absolutely useless.

Now what? How was he supposed to get through this?

He tried picturing the maze, recalling the paths Adrian once walked—different axes and twisting corridors, all designed to disorient—but nothing useful came to him.

"Okay, let’s just go. What are your names?" Daniel asked, not wanting to waste more time.

The three exchanged glances before one answered.

"I am 133. The others are 134 and 135."

Daniel’s heart sank. Judging by their looks, the boy might not have even been twenty-six yet, and here he was, reduced to a number.

What kind of cruel creature was Adrian? Stripping them of their humanity, turning children into nameless weapons—it was barbaric.

"Don’t you all have parents?" Daniel asked, flabbergasted.

Again, they shook their heads.

One explained they had been snatched away when they were just five, taken from their families, their memories erased. None of them could even remember their homes.

Daniel shuddered. Pity filled his chest as he stared at their young faces. Adrian was truly the worst of them all.

"Okay. Let’s go," Daniel said, tapping their shoulders as he led them forward. At least, now, they were free—or so he hoped.

Even though the penthouse had collapsed, the gate was far enough away that the catastrophe hadn’t reached it.

But as they bypassed the gate, entered the pyramid, and walked through endless rows of enormous trees forming triangular walls, Daniel’s eyes caught something.

A black shadow.

No, three of them, moving between the trees.

"What’s that?" Daniel asked, fear pricking through him.

"Do you think it’s here to attack?" one of the teenagers whispered, but Daniel kept watching the figures until they stepped into view.

His heart dropped.

Wolves.

Not ordinary ones. Massive, hulking beasts, so big they looked like bears. Their height nearly matched the boys’.

"Oh heavens... that’s one hell of an abominable dog," Daniel muttered, stumbling back, his feet trembling.

Why was Adrian keeping such monsters here? Didn’t he know wild animals were meant for the zoo? They weren’t called wild for nothing. And if he had such beasts in this place, it meant he knew exactly what he was doing.

Another one emerged. Then another. Until there were five.

Daniel’s eyes widened in horror. He forgot all about the teenagers in that moment.

He wasn’t going to die—not like this.

Letting out a deafening scream, he shouted:

"Run, boys! Don’t look back! Whatever happens, no one is allowed to stop—run! Run now!"

Immediately, they all bolted, Daniel included, as the five wolves thundered after them.

Two chased Daniel while the other three pursued the boys.

With a burning will to live, Daniel bit his lips hard and sprinted, adrenaline surging, his feet pounding so fast it almost felt like flying.

Even if he was going to die, it wouldn’t be as food for wild dogs.

"Adrian!!!" Daniel screamed through gritted teeth. "Your evil acts are piling up... killing you would be so damn thrilling!"
