Heat was radiating from Kara’s glare. Zod and his soldiers hovered, Faora at his side, two armored Kryptonians behind. Their black capes flicked faintly in the wind.

Kara floated higher, blue and red catching the light of the shattered moon above. Her hair drifted, her jaw set. "Oh, Zod." she said, her voice sharp and unyielding across the ruined plain. "Just for your info, I know that you didn’t seek me out because of whatever garbage you just said." Her fists clenched; twin pinpoints of crimson flared in her eyes. "You sought me instead of Kal because you think I’m weaker. Because he grew up bathing under a yellow sun and I didn’t. Because I’m the easier target."

The red light burst from her gaze like a god’s wrath. The ship behind Zod ignited in an instant, its hull melting into slag, erupting into a shockwave of molten metal and flame. Kara didn’t flinch as the blast wave washed over her; she stood amidst it, eyes cooling to blue again.

"You made a terrible mistake," she said flatly.

Zod’s expression didn’t waver. If anything, he looked pleased. "We’ll see about that, Kara Zor-El."

Faora stepped forward, her gaze cold and clinical. "General?"

Zod lifted a hand, unclasping the front of his battle armor. The plates hissed and fell away, crashing into the dirt with a heavy clang. "No armor, No restraint," he said. "We fight as Kryptonians."

Faora followed, her armor peeling away, revealing the black under-suit beneath. The two soldiers did the same, their eyes glinting faintly red. Zod rose from the ground, dust curling around his boots as he hovered to meet Kara’s gaze.

"I see," Kara said, her eyes narrowing. "You spent some time near a yellow sun."

Zod smirked. "Your sun, to be specific. The tools on our mothership accelerated the process. Painful and unbearable, yes. but when the purpose is great, power is worth suffering for."

Kara rolled her shoulders, cracks of sound breaking from her joints as energy rippled off her skin. "Doesn’t matter," she said. "I’ll crush all four of you myself."

Zod tilted his head, smiling faintly. "You are no warrior, Kara Zor-El."

The words had barely left his mouth before they moved.

They came like lightning, four streaks cutting through the sky, the sound barrier cracking four times over. Kara blocked Zod’s first strike with her forearm; the impact sent shockwaves rippling through the ruins below. She spun with the momentum, catching Faora’s leg mid-kick and hurling her across the plain like a missile. One of the soldiers crashed into her from behind, locking her arms, but she slammed her head backward right into his face.

She grabbed him by the throat, hurled him skyward, and met him halfway with a punch that sent him tumbling into orbit.

Zod’s fist caught her jaw, her head snapped sideways, blood spraying in a bright arc. He followed with a sharp elbow to her ribs, then drove his knee into her abdomen. Kara grimaced but twisted, catching his arm mid-strike. She flipped him, slamming him into the ground hard enough to crater the earth.

Faora was there before Kara could breathe two strikes, a blur of motion. Kara blocked the first with her forearm; the second caught her across the face. She went spinning through a ruined spire, dust exploding around her.

Kara emerged from the debris, her cape torn, a smile cutting through the blood on her lip. "You are surprisingly stronger than I thought."

Faora’s expression didn’t change. "You’re just a weak inexperienced child."

"Try me."

They clashed mid-air two blurs colliding over a dead city. Faora fought with the precision of a blade, every move was meant to kill. Kara fought instinctive, powerful, driven by fury and heart. Faora drove her knee into Kara’s chest; Kara answered by slamming her fist into Faora’s midsection, sending her hurtling into the ground.

The second soldier struck from behind Kara spun, caught his wrist, twisted, and broke it with a sound like cracking steel. She grabbed his shoulder and slammed him headfirst into the planet’s crust.

Zod appeared again, eyes blazing red. His heat vision tore through the air, Kara crossed her arms and absorbed it, her boots digging trenches in the dirt as she pushed forward through the beam. Her own eyes flared, and for a moment the world was bathed in red, their heat visions clashing mid-air colliding sending sparks everywhere.

The ground split open beneath them.

Then Kara broke through his beam, appearing in front of him in a blink, and drove her fist squarely into his chest. The impact rippled through the air, sending Zod flying back hundreds of meters, smashing through jagged ruins until he finally crashed into a half-buried mountain.

Faora lunged again; Kara spun, caught her arm, and threw her into one of the soldiers mid-flight. The two collided and spiraled into the sand.

Breathing heavily, Kara hovered over the cratered landscape. The air shimmered with heat, dust swirling around her in slow, molten spirals. Her eyes locked onto Zod as he rose from the rubble, wiping the blood from his mouth, smiling still.

"Not bad," he said, his voice calm, amused even. "Not bad at all, I want you as my soldier even more now."

Kara’s glare sharpened. "You will die by my hands."

Zod chuckled, floating upward once more. "You don’t have the ability to do that."

Kara’s eyes flared again no hesitation, no words this time. The sky lit up red as they launched at each other, two comets colliding in the dusk of a dead world.

The planet screamed beneath them. Craters glowed molten red from the heat of their clash, dust storms whipped into hurricanes with every impact. Kara’s fists blurred through the air, her golden hair streaking, eyes blazing with rage and pain.

Zod blocked a strike, his gauntlet sparking against her knuckles but she followed with a vicious knee to his ribs that sent him hurtling backward to the ground, the explosion sent up a shockwave.

Faora came from behind, her speed was surprising, small blade drawn, but Kara turned just in time, catching her wrist mid-swing. The sound of bones shattering echoed. Faora screamed, her arm twisting at an unnatural angle before Kara hurled her across the battlefield like a broken spear.

The two remaining soldiers darted in, moving in perfect tandem, disciplined, cold, trained by Zod himself. Kara remained focused, she spun, her foot cutting through one soldier’s chest like a hammer, sending him crashing into a pile of rubble. The second came low, aiming for her throat, but she caught him by the neck and drove him straight through the cracked ground, the impact carving a new crater.

The soldier didn’t rise again.

Her chest heaved, eyes glowing crimson as she turned back toward Zod, who now floated above the ruin, eyes narrowed. His jaw was bloodied by her doing...and that made her smirk.

"You trained them well," Kara said, her voice steady, low, dangerous. "But as you can see, it didn’t help."

Zod’s gaze flicked briefly to the fallen soldiers. His voice was calm, too calm. "You are stronger than I expected, Kara Zor-El. Perhaps too strong for now."

She shot forward before he could move, slamming into him midair, fists a blur of fury. Each punch sent shockwaves through the sky, the air rippling under their power. She drove him upward, then downward again smashing him into the earth hard enough to fracture the crust beneath them.

Zod gritted his teeth, catching her next punch. Their forearms locked, the ground beneath them fracturing in concentric circles.

"You fight well," he said, his voice strained but proud, like a general admiring a soldier. "But strength without control is chaos!"

Kara’s teeth clenched, her voice raw with defiance. "Then maybe chaos is exactly what you deserve!"

Her heat vision ignited point-blank, searing against Zod’s chest. He screamed, his chest started to burn, smoke curling from it. But his free hand slipped behind his back.

Kara saw it too late.

A sharp whine cut through, followed by a flare of unnatural light. Zod raised a compact weapon small, ancient Kryptonian make, its barrel humming with red light.

She barely had time to whisper, "That.." before he fired.

The beam hit her square in the chest. Her scream tore through the empty sky, her skin burning, the red sun energy flooding her cells like poison. She fell from the air, crashing through layers of debris, rolling to a stop amid ash and shattered stone.

The world went still.

Smoke drifted from her. Blood trickled from her nose and mouth, crimson against her pale skin. She tried to rise her hands trembling but the strength bled out of her muscles faster than she could summon it. The warmth of the yellow sun’s power was gone, replaced by a sickly weakness that coiled through her veins.

Zod landed beside her, his boots crunching against the soil. He still held the gun, its glow dying out slowly.

He looked down at her, his expression was calm, part triumph, part disappointment. "A single blast did this... it seems like getting used to the yellow sun made you very vulnrable to the red sun radiation to the point that it doesn’t just make you a regular kryptonian, it makes you even weaker than that.."

"The House of El..." he said softly, his tone dripping with disdain. "Always naive. Always foolish."

Kara forced her head up, glaring through the blood in her eyes. "You... you are weak... a cheat.." she rasped, voice weak, but burning with hate.

Zod crouched slightly, bringing himself closer to her level. "No, Kara. I adapted. That’s what survivors do. That’s what leaders do."

He reached out, brushing his fingers against her chin, lifting her face. "You have much to learn about that, Zor-El.
