Chapter 279 The So-Called Love_1

Chapter 279: 279 The So-Called Love_1

The Blood Emperor appeared abruptly.

His tall figure slowly approached Wen Jiang.

Xing Wu suddenly leaned in and whispered in Wen Jiang’s ear, "He succeeded."

Then, Xing Wu’s figure also vanished without a trace, presumably to complete the trade.

The Blood Emperor was still clad in all white. Compared to before, his demeanor was even more refined and elegant, and he managed a leisurely smile upon seeing Wen Jiang. "Are you alright?"

Yet, a hint of impatience flickered between his brows.

He returned quite quickly.

Presumably, after realizing someone was gone and thinking of something, he swiftly returned to Ceylon City.

Only to coincidentally stumble upon the Mech King attempting to make a move on Helena.

Was it mere coincidence?

Wen Jiang offered a noncommittal smile. "Thank you."

The Mech King, after all, was someone who made money for him. To kill the man so directly... the Blood Emperor’s motives were truly elusive.

He noted Wen Jiang’s pallid face, a result of her injuries from controlling Gabriel. The golden-haired, freckled girl’s eyes held a cold indifference, and she didn’t even make a sound.

"Injured?"

Wen Jiang nodded slowly. "I didn’t react in time when Gabriel’s attack came."

Whether he believed her or not wasn’t important. As long as this man didn’t show any obvious malice, Wen Jiang felt she could still hang on for a while.

"Go to the hospital later to get checked. Gabriel wasn’t targeting you all; it shouldn’t be a big problem."

His tone was gentle. After saying this, he seemed about to leave but then apparently remembered something. "Do you know a person named Di Jizhou?"

"Hmm?"

Wen Jiang looked up, a subtle confusion flickering in her eyes. "Di Jizhou?"

That awkward Yunxia Language name should have been memorable. After observing Wen Jiang for about two seconds, a barely noticeable trace of disappointment flashed in the Blood Emperor’s eyes.

"Just asking casually."

After saying this, he left the ruins. His figure seemed to move slowly, yet he disappeared in just a few steps.

Once he was gone, Zero Egg gasped, "He actually asked you that! Isn’t that the name he himself mentioned?"

Yes, that was the name he had personally uttered.

And Wen Jiang had actually guessed correctly.

She lowered her gaze. If she hadn’t questioned the Mech King just now, her acting probably wouldn’t have been so seamlessly natural; there would have been at least a moment of delayed reaction.

Remembering the Blood Emperor’s name would likely not lead to a good outcome.

To think people genuinely couldn’t remember the name Di Jizhou.

The same situation had only occurred with Hua Zhuo before. People in Imperial City knew of Hua Zhuo as a person, but they didn’t know where she came from, and their memories of what happened back then were very vague. This was because Yu Jian had used System abilities to blur the public’s memory.

Then what about the Blood Emperor? This man had a significant connection with Yu Jian; she had even given the System’s SSR Card to the Blood Emperor. This card was clearly extraordinary. It wasn’t on the same level as the cards produced by the Guiqing Association. Why would Yu Jian obscure others’ memories of the Blood Emperor?

"I feel there’s a huge problem here," Zero Egg said, still somewhat intimidated by the Heaven’s Mandate System. "With such a major incident, Yu Jian might come back. What if she gets discovered by the Heaven’s Mandate System then?"

Wen Jiang, however, was calm. "No, she won’t come back for now."

Zero Egg was bewildered. "Why?"

Wen Jiang replied, "She cherishes her life too much. An S-Rank Spirit Card Master capable of controlling Gabriel has appeared in Ceylon City—and one from Xi Zhou, no less. The card’s origin is also questionable. If I were her, worried that something might happen, I would also refrain from returning to Ceylon City for the time being."

Doing too many bad deeds makes one paranoid.

Xi Zhou places great importance on Angel Card Sets. Except for Ega’s Michael—rumored to have been brought out because Ega once spent time in Divine Punishment—he is also a figure banned by Xi Zhou. The Combat Angel Gabriel is a key offensive card; not many in the Sanctuary Empire possess it. Even Yunxia was flatly refused when she tried to buy one. It’s highly unlikely Fiend could have obtained it. The card’s origin is highly questionable. I can only wait for Xing Wu to return to get a clearer understanding.

"Helena!" Wen Jiang exclaimed, intending to leave.

Just then, Karin found her again. Karin looked rather anxious. Seeing Wen Jiang’s condition, her expression grew flustered. "Are you alright?"

Noticing Wen Jiang’s somewhat pale complexion, she asked, "Are you hurt?"

Wen Jiang nodded. "I was caught in Gabriel’s attack."

Karin looked disheveled too. This area was the center of the battlefield; quite a few Spirit Card Masters must have been affected.

As expected, Karin didn’t doubt her explanation and said gravely, "First, let’s go to the hospital. Ceylon City is on lockdown."

Wen Jiang nodded and went with her, taking the opportunity to ask, "What happened?"

"I don’t know."

Karin shook her head. "Who can possibly know the affairs of an S-Rank Spirit Card Master?"

She gave a wry smile. Such a major incident had occurred, and Ceylon City hadn’t been peaceful lately. Karin added, "Since you’re injured, you should stay in the hospital. Try to avoid going elsewhere."

And the city would need to be rebuilt. It was the first time such a major incident had occurred since Ceylon City’s establishment.

Wen Jiang accepted Karin’s kindness this time. Her ribs were genuinely broken. Even if she recovered quickly, she would need to rest and recuperate in the hospital for a few days. It was also a good opportunity to think about a new card.

Xing Wu had been right. The impact from the SSR Card this time had completely drained her physical strength and Spiritual Energy. However, during the recovery process, her recuperation speed was now significantly faster than before. She estimated she could now forcibly create SSR Cards, though there would be a failure rate.

Of course, with such a major incident in Ceylon City, Hua Zhuo also called to ask what was going on.

This time, Wen Jiang just claimed she didn’t know who Ceylon City had provoked.

During her stay in the hospital, Wen Jiang also encountered Xie Lingyu.

The recent battle had affected many things, and Ceylon City’s hospitals were overwhelmed. Due to her special status, Wen Jiang was given a VIP ward for quiet recuperation. Her neighbor, surprisingly, turned out to be Xie Lingyu.

Running into her wasn’t particularly surprising. What was unexpected, however, was that Xie Lingyu was pregnant.

Her lower abdomen was visibly swollen. Wen Jiang mentally calculated the time; it had only been a few months since she had last been aware of Xie Lingyu’s situation. Even with rapid growth, her belly couldn’t possibly be as large as a beach ball already. The Xie Lingyu of the past had been naive to an annoying degree, her appearance that of a spoiled, coddled greenhouse flower. But now, only a few months later, she looked terribly haggard and frighteningly thin, which made her belly seem even more prominent. Wen Jiang wasn’t sure if this was why it looked so strange. Yet, she still felt something was amiss.

She suddenly had a premonition that Xie Lingyu’s condition was not a good omen. The incident with the old woman hadn’t been a beginning, but an end. After all, there was something weighing down on this matter. The Xie Family was blood-related to her current body. Even though blood ties weren’t a major issue in the world of Spirit Card Masters, in the cultivation world she came from, many things—like curses—could be enacted through bloodlines.

Xie Lingyu was in low spirits. On the day Wen Jiang was admitted to the hospital for recuperation, she happened to witness Xie Lingyu arguing with Ah Li.

The two were speaking the Yunxia Language. Xie Lingyu kept insisting she wanted to go home, and although Ah Li was trying to coax her, impatience was already visible on his brow.

Only a few months had passed, and their so-called love had proven to be nothing more than a fleeting illusion.
