Capítulo 1046: Chapter 1046: Anwina Really Is a Mom Now

In comparison, Vanilla was surprisingly able to tell us more than Medivh, despite not knowing anything about Medivh’s true origins, she only had knowledge of the mythological stories from her own world. Yet her mental maturity was evidently much higher than that silly bird; she was a fourteen or fifteen-year-old child, and aside from being particularly shy and timid due to her limited exposure to the world, she spoke quite logically. Under her sister’s orderly guidance, she basically recounted everything that happened after she saw Medivh, giving us an understanding of the type of world she lived in.

Much better than that silly bird: after staying in the living room for half a day, the only thing she thought of was feeling sleepy, she dragged over several sofa cushions and thin blankets, including some coats hanging in the living room, piled them up near the door, and dug a pit in the center to make herself a nest—she’s still lying in that nest sleeping now. When Anwina snapped back to reality from Vanilla’s incredible stories and saw that messy bird nest, the silly bird was already fast asleep in her new nest—my coats were washed in vain.

Anwina apologized to me on behalf of her “daughter,” but what could I say? Medivh barely made it home, I really couldn’t bring myself to blame her: though surely even if someone reproached that silly bird, she wouldn’t understand, she might be even less clever than Little Baobao.

Vanilla and Medivh had only been together for about six or seven days (by comparing the circumstances described by the two, we inferred that the time ratio between that world and Earth should be similar, perhaps both worlds were created using the same series of templates), it’s hard to imagine they could become such good friends in just six or seven days, maybe it’s also a kind of fate. The little girl, called Vanilla simply because she collected vanilla and had no actual name, might have her originally insignificant life turned upside down due to this miraculous opportunity.

Sandora and I connected and combined the stories told by Vanilla and Medivh, along with already understood information, to roughly figure out the ins and outs of the whole matter, and it should more or less correspond to the truth:

Initially, Medivh roamed around the courtyard bored, her crow instincts (it’s better to use ‘she’ for the silly bird from now on) led her to scratch and dig on the ground, eventually uncovering Dingdang’s leaf (clearly letting Dingdang plant leaves by herself was a mistake! She could only dig so shallow a pit!), initially not eating, Medivh was attracted by some energy emitted from the leaf, and against all odds ate the leaf containing True God’s power.

The power of the True God stimulated the slowly evolving Original Energy within Medivh, gradually resonating, there must be a commonality between the two, such as the so-called “God” attribute, which in more professional terms is inherited from the information disturbance power of Void creatures, they are both derivatives of Void creatures and might influence each other at their origin, thus Medivh’s Original Energy became active, rapidly accelerating her Divine process. This process certainly wasn’t comfortable; Medivh described it as “hot inside the belly, like it’s on fire,” which indicated the energy transformation within her body had surpassed her physical limits, starting to damage her material foundation. It probably was extremely dire at that time, causing the silly bird to lose complete sight, she didn’t even have the chance to seek help from Anwina, instead flew out hastily; or it could be she forgot she could ask for help…

What followed was her chaotic twenty-four hours all around Earth, leaving her brilliant yet terrifying mark on the world, oh, and she also managed to make a batch of Divine medieval swords, Lilina is busy giving each sword a cool, impressive name.

Then, for some unclear reason, Medivh suddenly “comprehended” the power to cross worlds (we’re temporarily using this unreasonable term, the specific reason she could leap through the Void will have to be deciphered by the research center), jumping to a world possibly not on the Empire’s map, where she landed like a meteorite into a mountain valley, and began slowly recovering from the severe weakness caused by rapid Divine development.

Afterwards, she encountered a little girl collecting vanilla in the valley—I call this a collision of fate.

What followed was just as Vanilla described; the two (both?) gradually interacted, let down their guards, realizing neither bore hostility, we don’t know how the silly bird perceived Vanilla, but in the latter’s eyes, the immense, almighty, and unpredictably changing Medivh undoubtedly represented the primordial deity from her world: the Spirit of Nature.

Medivh spent a few days recovering her body and astonishingly learned how to control her powers (great talent, perhaps making up for her mental deficiencies), later a flash of inspiration struck, reminding her of the humanoid transformation topic she had researched with Anwina, thus she collected samples nearby and transformed into the likeness of Vanilla—at least roughly resembling Vanilla.

Vanilla was thrilled, wanting to take her “new sister” out for others to see, perhaps this was a childish act of showing off, or simply to prove she wasn’t alone, but ultimately, it triggered panic. People believed Medivh was an enraged Spirit of Nature, controlling Vanilla, for which they even called the Sheriff. Leading to Vanilla and Medivh hastily fleeing that world: calling it a flee might not be entirely accurate, as nobody knew if Medivh’s return home was voluntary…the silly bird was in a deep sleep now, leaving no chance to ask.

Here, I discovered an interesting phenomenon: In the world where Vanilla lived, mortals possibly held complex feelings towards Gods, they feared the Gods, respected them while considering them fickle and cruel Monarchs, yet at the same time dared confront them directly. Can I assume that in Vanilla’s world, the so-called “Gods” are relatively approachable? Or at least not so elusive, they are tangible, directly interacting with mortals, while mortals are intimidated by Divine Power, yet don’t seem wholly obedient. If that truly is the case, Vanilla might come from a fascinating place.

In my memory, there is no such world within the Empire.

The time was already late, yet Vanilla seemed still spirited: she departed from her world during the day, the journey through the Void itself was quite brief, thus unable to adjust her jet lag yet. Unlike that silly bird who was already sound asleep—well, let’s blame it less on the bird this time, after all, she was responsible for bringing someone across, possibly consuming quite a bit of physical strength.

We’re not night owls, although not sleeping wouldn’t be a problem, but staying up chatting with a little girl in the middle of the night isn’t quite appropriate, besides Vanilla needs to adjust her jet lag, even if not sleepy it’s best to rest now, I glanced at Anwina: “Is there a prepared empty room? Let the child rest first, other things can wait until tomorrow.”

Anwina nodded: “The room next to Sayaka’s room is empty, though there’s only a bed, simple for a night it shouldn’t be a problem.”

“No trouble,” Vanilla cautiously glanced at us, pointed to the “nest” where Medivh lay sleeping, “I can be with the Spirit of Nature, won’t cause you any trouble…”

I smiled and patted her on the head: “What Spirit of Nature, we’re used to calling her Little Crow, sometimes Medivh, she hasn’t achieved Divine status yet. Don’t be restrained here, just behave like you’re at home, the glowing sister beside you is called Anwina, she doesn’t sleep at night, in case of anything just call her, she can hear anyone within a hundred miles calling her name.” I always felt Anwina’s many skills were adjusted askew. “Nothing else, you are very safe here.”

Vanilla looked at me in surprise, at this moment she perhaps realized she hadn’t acknowledged the identities of this group in front, busy running around with the Spirit of Nature, feeling lost due to the drastic environmental change, yet explaining our large family’s background was a colossal task, involving extremely complex context, my sister nudged the little girl toward Anwina: “Go to rest first, it’s midnight here now. Anwina, if possible, give the child a rough understanding of the household situation.”

Anwina lifted her skirt and slightly bowed: “Yes, mistress.” Then led the bewildered little girl upstairs.

The Tiaozi Five initially planned to join the excitement, seeing it over, instantly dispersed like birds and beasts, Qianqian and my sister, too, yawned heading back to their room. I glanced at the chaotic bundle of blankets and cushions by the door, Medivh sleeping inside like a small animal, drooling heavily: beneath her was my coat… I felt unwilling to witness, prompting Sandora to turn around with me heading back into the room.

That night went by without incident, at dawn the next day I woke extremely early, maybe because there was something weighing on my mind, I barely slept soundly during the latter half of the night. Normally, it’s Mercury Lamp waking me up, but this time I actually woke up earlier than that precise biological clock Little Doll, after knocking on the other’s box and rousing the little one, Mercury Lamp was full of surprise: “Ah! You didn’t sleep last night?”

See, that fellow never even considered that I might have moments of earlier rise…

I pulled the little doll who was still lazing in the soft box unwilling to get out of bed, carried her to the sink and said, “Hurry up and brush your teeth and wash your face. I’ll introduce you to a new friend later. Also, that silly bird came back last night.”

“I don’t want to brush my teeth. Why do dolls have to brush their teeth every day,” the Mercury Lamp muttered while patting my head, then suddenly came to a realization, “Eh? Silly bird? You said Medivh is back? Who else came?”

The Mercury Lamp slept so peacefully in the box, she probably didn’t hear the commotion downstairs last night. I roughly recapped what happened last night, especially highlighting the kid called Vanilla. The Mercury Lamp can be a bit difficult to get along with at times; if she suddenly sees a stranger at home, she’d probably be cold. But if I tell her in advance, the doll girl will be very obedient.

“Oh, things really happen around you every now and then,” the Mercury Lamp eyed me sideways, grinning to reveal a little bit of her Little Tiger Teeth, “I notice the chance of girls showing up around you is unusually high.” She mentioned it nonchalantly, but I took it to heart: darn it, I remembered that comment Bingdisi made about me last night.

The two of us cleaned up and went downstairs, where at first glance, I saw Medivh sitting on the sofa with legs crossed, listening to Anwina’s lecture. She had already changed her clothes; the coarse cloth dress she wore upon arrival wasn’t appealing and, more importantly, was quite dirty. I had no idea where Anwina found clothes suitable for Little Crow’s size: a white long-sleeve jacket on top with a small black-and-red vest over it, a white cotton skirt on the bottom, and some comfy bubble socks on her feet. Yesterday, Little Crow seemed like a wild child, but Anwina had transformed her into someone who looked like a normal middle-school girl from modern society: she looked so thin, at most the age of a middle schooler.

“I put Black’s clothes on her,” Anwina stood up the moment she saw me come down, gave a perfect lady’s gesture, and then pointed at the silly bird who was tugging her buttons, “Black and she are both pretty thin, so the size fits perfectly.”

“Transform… oh, Black,” I suddenly understood, “She probably won’t fit these clothes soon enough, since she’s in the growing years. By the way, where’s that little girl named Vanilla?”

“Still asleep,” Anwina shook her head with a smile, “She couldn’t adjust to the time difference and asked me quite a few things about you and Medivh yesterday until she suddenly got sleepy early in the morning. The child must have suffered a lot; when I let her sleep on the bed, she was so tentative as if she had never encountered such a soft bed.”

“I could tell at a glance,” I casually remarked, “By the way, remember to wake her up for lunch, and we should check her body to ensure she hasn’t suffered any aftereffects since she traveled across worlds with that silly crow. Taking her to Shadow City… forget it, better summon an expert here. Directly taking her to Shadow City would most likely scare her.”

Anwina smiled and looked at me warmly, saying, “The master is indeed a very kind person.”

I scratched my head and laughed twice. The silly bird beside me, seeing no one was paying attention to her, started getting restless. She wobbly stood up and began to scratch the sofa cushion with her feet…

“What does that mean?” I looked at Medivh in horror and asked aloud.

Anwina thought for a moment, puzzled, “Perhaps she wants to dig a hole? Or maybe she’s sharpening her claws…”

It seems we still have a long way to go to teach this crow to live in a human way. First and foremost, we need to make her understand that the household blankets and cushions aren’t nest-building materials—certainly not the master’s clothes either.

Soon it was breakfast time, which seemed like a novel task for Medivh. Just ten days ago, this bird had never eaten before; she didn’t even know her beak had functions beyond pecking here and there. She learned to eat for the first time in the Otherworld, taught by Vanilla. But I guess that world probably didn’t have chopsticks, or even knives and forks—something I realized the moment the silly bird reached into the bowl to grab tofu pudding. I reckon the food Vanilla could provide were just wild fruits and coarse dried rations, with absolutely no opportunity to practice using utensils…

Little Crow Medivh sat right next to me. Our family doesn’t have fixed seats for meals; it’s generally first come first served. But today, as it’s her welcome home, she sat next to me: many in our house believe this spot to be a prime location. Anwina sat on Little Crow’s other side, teaching her how to use utensils by hand: “This is tofu pudding, you should use a spoon to eat it, and it’s hot, so if it’s too hot, blow on it to cool it down first.”

“Oh, use a spoon, this is a spoon!” Medivh was content with her learning progress, tightly grabbing a small spoon and awkwardly scooped some tofu to Anwina’s bowl, “Mom have some first!”

I was quite touched. They say crows repay their care, and that seems true. But you still have your parents in the tree in the yard; don’t you care about them?

Just as I was halfway through my sentiment, Little Crow suddenly grabbed two more small spoons from the table, put them in her own bowl, then took the big bowl of tofu pudding and dashed to the window, letting out two “caw-caw” calls outside. The two crow parents resting in the yard fluttered over, looking at the little girl perched by the window, seemingly not recognizing this unfamiliar human. But after Little Crow mumbled lowly for a while, they seemed to understand something, affectionately bending their necks and rubbing their beaks against the little girl’s face. Little Medivh placed the tofu pudding on the windowsill, clumsily holding the spoon to demonstrate, “This is tofu pudding, use this to eat it, this is a spoon, hold it like this…”

And so, the two big crows were stunned.

I quickly glanced at Anwina, “Kid’s godmother, better go tell the kid that her real parents can’t use spoons…”

I don’t know how Anwina communicated with the gibberish-speaking Medivh, or how she communicated with the two crows in the yard, or how Little Medivh communicated with her own parents… Alright, the fact they can all communicate with each other is a miracle in my opinion. Anwina conversed with the crow family by the window for quite a while before all three reached a consensus. The crow couple appreciatively took the pastries and other snacks Anwina brought over, while the bowl of tofu pudding was brought back: crows don’t eat this.

Anwina continued teaching the silly bird how to use other utensils, including chopsticks and knives and forks. Little Crow was earnest in learning, but since it was her first encounter with such things, she couldn’t comprehend our actions. She grabbed everything like a lever, leaving one both exasperated and amused. However, Anwina never showed impatience. On the contrary, the Ghost Maid seemed to be completely enjoying herself, patiently teaching her goddaughter step by step how to successfully deliver food to her mouth.

We came to a final evaluation: Anwina has truly become a mother…(to be continued. If you like this work, feel free to visit Qidian () to vote for recommendations and monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
