Capítulo 1047: Chapter 1047: The Immature Silly Bird

If you haven’t taken care of a real child, you won’t know what a grand project it is to feed them. This task should be alongside the duties of a national leader, cutting-edge scientific research, and accompanying your wife shopping, listed as one of the four extreme jobs in the world, and should be included in the intangible cultural heritage of mankind…

Little Crow’s clumsiness in learning to use utensils is simply indescribable. I finally realized firsthand what kind of disorientation a creature experiences when its body is completely replaced. Just a few days ago, Medivh was still a bird, completely unaware of the difference between using arms and wings, nor used to having suddenly appeared fingers. To her, grasping seemed impossible, especially using four fingers to precisely control the movement of two chopsticks: I heard that there was once a foreigner who studied the mechanics and drew a series of equations and graphs to learn how to use Chinese chopsticks. Now I think that foreigner might not have been the most miserable faced with Chinese chopsticks; he should see how a bird learns to use chopsticks…

In the end, Little Crow’s only method of using utensils was grabbing everything in her fist. All the forks, knives, chopsticks, and small spoons in her hand became crowbars. By the time she finished a meal, she succeeded in spreading the food evenly over a two-square-meter area, including herself and Anwina. I dodged quickly, or I would have met the same fate. Seeing that there was no way to get Little Crow to skillfully use her hands in a short time, Anwina had no choice but to feed the silly bird spoonful by spoonful. The scene was unusually heartwarming. However, there was still a problem: Little Crow always forgot to chew when eating; she would swallow the food directly, no matter how big the chunk, which caused her to nearly choke several times.

We contemplated for a long time and finally remembered: crows don’t have teeth…

“Oh my, this is exhausting,” I said, watching Anwina feed the silly bird, feeling tired for the mother and daughter. My earlier assumption was wrong; Medivh would’ve never eaten with Vanilla after becoming humanoid, otherwise, I can’t imagine how the latter helped her “new sister” solve her dining challenges. Just as I spoke, that silly bird choked again: she had learned from Anwina that solid food needed to be chewed, though she always forgot that part.

“Adapting to a new body is quite difficult,” Sandora said, seemingly professionally, watching Little Crow learning so hard, her brow slightly furrowed. “This is probably the problem faced by the first batch of creatures experiencing a major change during deification. Her soul was previously a bird, so she couldn’t possibly learn how to use her completely different new body instantly after becoming human. Even if her body’s structure has no issues, she’d still feel at a loss using her hands. Hopefully, that bird can quickly learn these skills, or else her future life will be quite rough.”

Lin, kneeling on a chair not far away and leaning on the backrest watching, said with much feeling, “Yes, it’s quite difficult to adapt after the body changes. It’s the same for us Dragon Gods: when I first turned human, I wasn’t used to it at all. I would get startled looking for my other head which I couldn’t see beside me, always thinking I had lost it.”

Me: “… Can we talk about something less terrifying?”

Ordinary people, if they turn around and see an extra head of their own, would almost certainly be scared witless.

Lin waggled her head, “Nah, it’s not terrifying, we’re used to it. After Dragon Gods first learn to take human form, they take a day or two to rest and adapt to the changes; after all, all the things learned before transformation were theoretical, and you don’t truly know what standing upright means until you try it yourself—Medivh is very smart; she was able to walk upright directly.”

I felt the topic getting more bizarre but still became gradually interested, “Hey, speaking of which, you were hatched from an egg?”

Lin blushed slightly, looking at me, “This topic is embarrassing, alright? Be polite to girls—But yes, I was hatched from an egg. Oh, by the way, I still have the eggshell, want to see it? It’s quite commemorative, once I can control my powers better, I’ll carve a set of reliefs on it…” I think this topic has already become so bizarre I can’t even control it.

“Let’s… forget it, you can keep that thing for yourself,” I said, waving my hand awkwardly, then suddenly remembered something, “By the way, with you Dragon Gods not being used to it after your first form shift, wouldn’t it be troublesome? Only a day or two to learn how to adapt to a new body?”

Lin thought for a moment: “To put it this way: the change from a larva to a butterfly is huge, right? Yet a just-emerged butterfly can quickly learn to fly, even though it had no wings prior to metamorphosis. A newborn butterfly’s talent for flying is inherited genetically. We Divine Race don’t have such genetic inheritance, but we have an ancestry with a much greater capacity for information, allowing us to directly grasp any knowledge our forebears accumulated. Therefore, our process of adapting to a new body is also quite rapid. The ability to live in human form is imprinted deep in our talents, so after just a bit of psychological adjustment, we can swiftly master it. For us Dragon Gods, this initial adaptation takes only a day or two, the fastest even just a few hours. However, Medivh will need a long time, and her adaptation will be uneven because she doesn’t have this inherited talent. She is the first generation of mutation, having to explore everything on her own, slowly imprinting it into her soul, so the next generation of the Crow God can directly access this ancestor knowledge. Of course, this is my speculation based on the characteristics of the Star Domain Divine Race. Medivh might have other methods since she belongs to the Xyrin Divine System.”

I was stunned, looking at the Dragon God girl who always appeared weak and timid in front of me speaking so eloquently, and eventually asked, “I say, do you understand genetics?” I thought this poor millennium cleaner’s only value in the team was being a handyman.

Lin proudly raised her head immediately, “This knowledge is simple; I once took elective courses in the three major subjects of life theory. Many of the ‘genetic’ concepts for mortal creatures are actually designs made by Divine Race long ago, although the expression forms of genetic factors differ.”

I was quite surprised, and Monina glanced at Lin, softly saying, “Weren’t you mistaken about the course and took life theory by accident? You only graduated by copying my brother’s test papers.”

Lin scratched her hair, shyly explaining to me, “I didn’t have enough credits at the time, and I saw life theory’s three major subjects had high credits; I didn’t expect it to be so difficult.” I opened my mouth, feeling a complaint stuck in my throat, unable to go up or down, almost suffocating…

After eating, we sent Little Crow to Shadow City for a comprehensive physical exam, conducted personally by Taville, to check if any sequelae were left in this silly bird’s body, as she had just undergone an evolution from an elite wild creature to an underground city leader boss, plus a round-trip through the void, both Anwina and I were worried that it might place too much strain on her body.

Although she is mostly a troublesome child, Medivh was very adept at the physical examination; she had been to the research center many times and even recognized quite a few of the staff there. She seemed vibrant along the way, constantly reaching out her hand to touch those glowing instruments and equipment in passing, seemingly very interested in shiny things—crows seem to have this trait. After Anwina’s short training, Medivh discovered that her hands were actually very good tools; although she still doesn’t know how to use them, she has started trying to touch things she couldn’t before with her hands. Just like how a raven likes shiny objects, she seemed very intrigued by them.

The basic body check was completed quickly, and Taville scanned Little Crow to examine her energy flows; she was quite familiar with having her body checked. Apparently, she was quite easy with the inspections, having been doing so often. She seemed particularly interested in shiny things: apparently crows are known for that. After a half day’s research, we finally remembered: crows don’t have teeth.

Basic physical checks were completed quickly after Taville scanned Little Crow and investigated the flow of energy within her body, which she handled with ease. She was familiar with the research center procedures. She seemed surprisingly at ease when it came to physical examinations. The examination showed that her body was light and warm, evidencing a nature similar to Ghost Energy. These energies seemed to appear continuously from new energy sources and formed energy vortices. Taville analyzed the flow of energy within Little Crow and conducted a mark, identifying that the energy nodes were indeed spatial rifts.

“””

Therefore, it seems that Little Crow’s current form should be quite weak: at least much weaker than her true form. I tend to compare Little Crow to Lin, as there are many obvious similarities between the two, like transformation. At this point, the difference between this silly bird and the Dragon God becomes apparent. Although Lin’s power decreases after transforming into human form, most of her strength is retained, while Little Crow has to place her true body in another space after transforming, leaving behind only a fragile projection in the real world.

“To unleash slightly stronger power, she must reveal her true form,” Sandora commented, “but this doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a weakness — Ah Jun, have you realized that the current Medivh is essentially undead?”

I thought about it and realized it was indeed the case: if Little Crow hides her true body in the Other Space, destroying the entity before us would only make her lose less than a tenth of her power, which is actually a pretty clever way to stay alive, and it could even confuse the enemy at critical moments.

“I just don’t know if she did it intentionally or if it was a case of a blind cat meeting a dead mouse,” I laughed, “I think it’s the latter.”

This point immediately got everyone’s consensus…

“Now we need to see what her true form has become,” Taville turned off the scanning device and looked at the silly bird checking the ground in the zone, “The space here is big enough, let her transform directly.”

I gave the silly bird an instruction, and Little Crow immediately began her transformation… sorry for describing it this way because her transformation isn’t instantaneous. She stood in the center of the fully isolated examination room, closed her eyes slightly, and the equipment showed that the spatial stability around her was rapidly declining due to the massive influx of energy. Soon, in just two or three seconds, a huge black shadow appeared in the air behind Little Crow, vaguely resembling a giant bird. Blinding blue-white arcane energy quickly swept over the shadow, rapidly materializing it. Finally, accompanied by an impact that made the entire laboratory tremble, a super-giant crow, dozens of meters high with a wingspan possibly one to two hundred meters, appeared before everyone.

This size is truly unscientific… but it seems a bit smaller compared to Lin’s size.

The giant crow was surrounded by energy mist, with arcane lightning and shadow intense flames flowing over each of its feathers. The edges of its metallic wings were nearly phantasmal, and a slight flap would cause a distorted light screen, showing just how dense the energy was. The giant bird lowered its head to look this way, thunder-like light surged in its eyes. It blinked, then changed angle to keep observing us—almost forgot, it’s now more cross-eyed than usual.

And at the feet of this extraordinarily immense crow, there was an almost inconspicuous little black shadow, as the little girl form of Medivh looked upward with her neck craned, jumping and trying hard to climb up along “her own claws.”

Me: “…”

Everyone: “…”

“What’s the situation!?” I stared dumbfounded at the scene before me, unable to comprehend why the little girl version of Medivh and the giant Crow God appeared in front of me simultaneously, “Why is that girl still there?”

“Well… it’s hard to explain,” Taville quickly checked various data, “It seems like her grasp on her own power is a mess. Right now there are both a large and a small energy vortex in the testing field, but these two energy sources are indeed one entity. She has divided herself into two parts but is using a single mind to think… Normally her human form should be absorbed into her true body, but something went wrong, and she hasn’t been retracted. Theoretically, that is.”

We were all dumbfounded as we watched from the outside, at the center of the energy-barrier-enclosed space, the giant crow and the little girl stared each other down, a true big-eyed to small-eyed scenario. It’s incredibly amazing that “they” are actually “her,” and I couldn’t fathom what that silly bird was thinking now—oh, by the way, do Lin’s two heads have a similar feeling when she turns into the Dragon God?

The little girl version of Medivh ran around her own giant body, looking very distressed, and the giant version of Medivh surely shared the same distress, uh, no, not the same, because they are essentially using the same mind. Well, that explanation is a bit confusing even for me. Eventually, that chaotic little girl and the giant crow couldn’t manage to merge into one after fumbling around a lot, and just as we were about to step in to help, the silly bird finally made a shocking move.

The giant crow lowered her head, opened her mouth, and swallowed the little girl version of Medivh, then happily looked at us and flapped her wings, as if inviting applause.

Everyone was dumbfounded, and after being stunned for a few seconds, exclaimed in unison: “Swallowed it!”

Yes, swallowed it, and not just visually, but according to various instruments and devices, the two energy foci had merged into one, and the giant crow was now the only energy source within the testing field. Her internal circulation system was finally complete: now before us was the fully realized Crow God. Although her transformation process was truly bizarre.

“Uh, Little Medivh should be okay, right?” Qianqian asked bluntly, but then caught on, “Seems like it’s fine, since there’s no difference between the two bodies. Why do I feel like I’m losing brain power.”

I looked at Qianqian in shock, thinking there aren’t many things that can make this girl say something like that.

Taville was stammering, “Now… now we can check her overall state. Theoretically, that is.”

The check results came out quickly, revealing Medivh’s true power before our eyes, reflecting very astonishing figures. Taville used quantifiable data to show that the power of this bird is now equivalent to a hundred ravens combined: at least the energy intensity contained within her reached this standard. Where did such enormous energy come from? It certainly couldn’t be achieved by mere mutation, and I even suspect she strengthened herself while traversing the Void by harnessing the environment there, which is entirely possible. It’s really hard to imagine that not long ago she was just a little crow, scarcely longer than an arm, jumping around in the courtyard looking for pebbles to play with. Her ability to mutate to this extent is a testament to the powerful information disruption capabilities of Void Creatures, and of course, Dingdang’s leaflet clearly had a remarkable catalytic effect…

However, I believe the actual power Medivh can wield won’t reach the level of “one hundred ravens.” She has a long path ahead in learning to control her power, not to mention those lightning bolts wandering across her surface. They look gorgeous, but they’re actually being wasted and scattered. Taville found a whole bunch of depleted energy crystals to hang on that silly bird, and she filled over half of them in less than five minutes! I think Medivh is now especially suited to be a power source; this fellow can simulate any energy below Ghost Energy, and with one sneeze, she could cover our household electricity bills for a year… (To be continued.
