Chapter 57: Gavin from Lestria
BOOM!
Ken lunged forward like a rocket, every muscle in his body flexed as he leaped into the air and came down with an overhead slash.
SLASH, BOOM!
It sounded like thunder had erupted when the blade hit the ground. All the infected around him were thrown aside. He stood straight, a grin on his face after showing his skill.
But then he looked up and saw Fey easily throwing aside monsters left and right. Fey was moving unbothered. A wolf leaped at him; he grabbed the inside of its mouth with one hand, and before it could snap down, he swung it and used it to slam into a boar that was headed his way, blasting them into meat paste in an instant.
"Who is that kid? How is he that powerful? Tsk, haha, I’ll not allow myself to fall behind. After all, I have to show I’m a good connection to make for young master Raze," he said, then rushed forward, turning it into a competition. His body moved with so much power that it looked like he was cutting air.
The wolves that were hit were slashed clean, and their blood sprayed out like a fountain. In less than a minute, Fey and Ken cleared it all. Ken was covered in blood, but Fey, on the other hand, was clean as a baby.
He looked at Ken, then walked toward him. "Human, your strength is pretty decent," he said in an analytic tone, then started walking away before he paused and looked back. "Yet something is holding you back. Have you ever heard of curses?" he asked.
When Ken heard that, his eyes widened. All his life, he had fought to become stronger, pushing past his limits and striving to reach the very peak of his strength. He had broken his body over and over again, yet he got to the point where it seemed like his life didn’t have any more progress. So hearing this immediately pulled all his attention.
"Yes, I have heard of curses," he said, wanting to see where this was going.
"Good, you should look into it. You have a curse in you; it hinders your growth," Fey said and walked toward Raze. Ken stood there stunned. Could it be true? Could what the kid said actually be the truth? Had all the effort he put into life been negated because of a curse?
He wasn’t sure of the truth, but if he was certain of one thing, it was the fact that he would get to the bottom of it no matter what.
Fey glanced back at Ken, a smile formed on his face, but then it shifted into a worried smile. He looked over at Raze. "If only his own could be simple as well," he said, then kept walking, shifting back into his normal expression.
"You owe me a ton of food," Fey said.
"That’s not an issue, Fey. You did crazy well," Raze said.
"I’m not accustomed to this human body yet, it made fighting a lot harder," Fey said. Then suddenly, he looked at the forest. Something else was coming. "Something is coming," he said.
Raze immediately used God’s Eyes and looked. He saw the figure, it was the shape of a human, but there was a strange energy around this being that blocked his view and stopped him from actually seeing this human properly.
This made him worried. He gripped his hoe tight. "Everyone, be on guard. It might be another monster." After a few seconds, the person finally came out of the forest into the brightness of day.
A tall, handsome young man, no more than fifteen, with neck-long black hair and abyss-like eyes, a great sword on his back.
Everyone wondered who that was, everyone aside from Raze, because the very moment he saw him, he knew who that was.
The Hero, Gavin, the commoner who lost everything to the demon beasts in the story, a figure blessed by Gaya herself, carrying both a massive drive for justice and an unusual drive for vengeance.
The entire story was built around his journey, his growth, his losses, and everything that made him who he became. He was a walking calamity, as his presence was like a magnet for the worst.
’Why the hell is he here? He should be at Raven Academy already, or on his way there. Why did he come to my town?’ Raze began thinking.
"This kid is strong," Fey stated, scanning Gavin from head to toe. "And his potential is tremendous," he added.
When the boy was a few tens of meters away, Raze walked up, followed by Fey and Ella, heading to meet the boy halfway.
Gavin scanned the field around him. He saw the hundreds of dead monsters and beasts. He knew instantly that this was where all the monsters those four infected had headed. And from the look of things, the situation was already handled before he got there.
He looked at the trio. He could instantly tell that Raze was the leader here. He scanned him from head to toe in a moment, but he couldn’t read Raze at all, and that immediately ticked him off. Whenever he looked at a person, he could tell a little about what type of person he or she was.
But as he looked at Raze, he couldn’t get anything, like someone with no real definition. And that worried him, because someone with no real structure could be swayed by evil and work with the demons like the cult does.
It caused him worry, but he couldn’t do anything about that now. "Good day, my name is Gavin, from Lestria," he said.
"Lestria? That’s all the way to the east of Vermilion. Isn’t that the town near the border that was attacked once?" Ella asked. Her curiosity, like always, made her forget about being sympathetic or showing emotions.
Her words visibly struck some strings within Gavin, but regardless, he responded, "Yes, my hometown is Lestria. I was one of the few to survive the attack long ago," he said.
