Mysterious Journey
Chapter 31: Erina, Get Out Here!
In Dumbledore's long life, he had met many wizards who were passionate about Potions or Herbology, and even among the current Hogwarts professors, there was one who was possibly the most outstanding Potions master of his age. When facing various potions and herbs, they would show a passion completely different from their usual selves.
Dumbledore had no doubt that once she entered Hogwarts, this silver-haired little girl would do quite well in Potions and Herbology classes. Of course, that was if she wasn't expelled from the classroom by angry professors.
Because the passion that Eileen showed was unlike anyone he had seen before.
"Hello, please cut half a Mandrake Cabbage for me."
"Please cut a pound of this Erumpent's liver for me."
"Eee, could you add some salt to this Murtlap's blood and sell it to me as congealed blood clots?"
"Peppermint? Sounds good. It should be nice sprinkled on grilled fish. Please grab a handful for me, thank you."
"I think I'll take half a pound of these white beans too..."
"... Hey, hey, hey?! Professor Dumbledore, don't pull me away, I haven't finished talking..."
Dumbledore nodded amiably at the apothecary clerk, placed the learning utensils and a standard dose of various potion ingredients into a small bag, reached out, and dragged the silver-haired little girl, who was drooling, out of the apothecary.
"Let's see, we have already bought books, a pewter cauldron, scales, and the potion ingredients we just bought..."
Ignoring the noisy Eileen beside him, Dumbledore took out the first-year's shopping list from his pocket and checked it again.
"Next is your wand..."
"Neah, according to what I just said, hurry up and prepare it for me."
Taking advantage of Dumbledore's inattention, the silver-haired little girl broke free and ran back into the apothecary, opening her small wallet at her waist, preparing to continue her "grocery shopping spree."
"I'm sorry, but Professor Dumbledore specifically instructed that we are not allowed to sell you any supplies other than those on the school supply list. So..."
The apothecary clerk was a young wizard. He politely shook his head and refused Eileen's request without hesitation. As a Hogwarts graduate, he naturally had no reason to refuse Dumbledore's instructions.
Therefore, no matter how much Eileen pleaded or tempted with Galleons, it all ended in failure.
*Grumble!*
Eileen, achieving nothing, puffed up her cheeks angrily and stormed out of the apothecary.
Outside the door, the tall Dumbledore stood smiling in his previous spot, watching with interest as Eileen returned to his side. He shook his head and explained seriously.
"Miss Eileen, both Potions and Herbology are quite profound subjects. Before you have undergone systematic course learning, I do not want you to purchase too many dangerous and strange items."
"For example, the white bean you wanted to buy just now is actually the fruit of the Sopophorous Bean, which contains a silver liquid that will temporarily remove a person's memory if taken directly. The related potion knowledge is content that sixth-year students will learn."
Raising her head, looking at Dumbledore who was explaining seriously, Eileen retorted unhappily.
"Then... what's wrong with me wanting to cut half a Mandrake Cabbage to take back to the orphanage to stir-fry? It's just a moving cabbage! After it's cooked, it's almost the same as ordinary cabbage. Does that mean that moving vegetables aren't vegetables?"
"Regarding that, you can consult Professor Sprout, who is in charge of Herbology, later. In short, the handling of magical plants requires study."
Blinking his eyes with some difficulty, Dumbledore rarely appeared at a loss for words and awkwardly changed the subject.
"I think you must be looking forward to having your own wand. That's what every young wizard desires the most."
As Dumbledore spoke, he reached out to pull Eileen towards Ollivander's Wand Shop at the end of Diagon Alley.
"No, I don't want to! You're just abusing your power and bullying me!"
Eileen shook her hand away from Dumbledore angrily.
For a foodie like her, no wand could compare to real food. And what made her most angry was that Eileen clearly felt that she was being targeted by Dumbledore.
"I'm not allowed to buy pets, I'm not allowed to buy a flying broom, I'm not allowed to buy potions, and even my textbooks will only be given to me after the start of school. Am I going to Hogwarts to study or to serve a prison sentence?"
The little emotions that the silver-haired little girl had accumulated all morning finally erupted. All the way, Dumbledore had been like a broken record, repeating the same two sentences over and over—"You can't buy this." and "You can't go there."
Although Eileen had already decided that she would definitely find time to sneak into Diagon Alley later, she couldn't stand Dumbledore going to a store and asking the clerk to put her on a restricted sales list.
"Umm..."
Faced with Eileen's question, Dumbledore awkwardly stroked his long beard.
Thinking about it, he also felt that he might be a little too nervous, but he didn't know why, ever since he came out of Gringotts, he had been feeling uneasy.
Looking at Eileen kicking pebbles on the ground, even when she was angry, she looked exceptionally cute, making people want to pinch her adorable little cheeks.
Dumbledore thought for a while and said tentatively.
"How about... we go to the pet store first? I remember you said you liked magical creatures."
Whether it was allowing the purchase of magical materials or letting Eileen buy those strange magical items, Dumbledore thought that it could lead to very dangerous consequences.
In comparison, if he could use a pet to rein in Eileen's personality, it might not be a bad thing.
Pet store? That's doable!
Eileen's eyes lit up, and her face instantly cleared up.
"Since Professor Dumbledore has said so, then I have nothing to refuse... Hehehe, the pet store you're talking about is that Magical Menagerie, right?!"
The silver-haired little girl was initially a little reserved and polite, but then she changed the subject, let out a string of silver bell-like laughter, and rushed into the store she had been eyeing for a long time through the crowd.
"Hey, run slower, be careful not to bump into people."
Dumbledore shook his head helplessly and followed Eileen into the store called Magical Menagerie.
The store was not very big, the walls were densely covered with cages, the air faintly smelled of stink, and the sounds were noisy, because the guys in the cages were squeaking, chirping, or hissing.
Two huge purple toads sat in a cage by the door, gobbling up dead flies. A huge turtle stayed motionless by the window, as if it was not in a good mood, its shell shimmering like a gemstone.
In addition, there were cats of various colors, a cage of noisy ravens, a basket of custard-colored funny furballs buzzing, and two Two-tailed Newts fighting each other for a piece of food in a glass tank. A chubby white rabbit popped into a silk top hat with a snap, and then popped back, constantly changing, trying to attract the attention of people in the store.
Eileen gently licked her lips.
It was—amazing!
Just as Mr. Newt Scamander said, every magical creature is full of fascinating charm, making people want to get close and study them.
As Eileen's gaze swept across the store, the noisy little space suddenly quieted down. Even the most noisy ravens suddenly stopped and fluttered their wings anxiously, pacing back and forth in the cage.
In the entire Magical Menagerie, only the girl's crisp voice echoed in the room.
"Hello, I want to buy this chubby white rabbit."
"Please also pack those two Two-tailed Newts that are fighting. Oh, and I need three or four of those pretty furballs."
"And that big turtle that looks a little depressed, why don't you sell it to me too..."
"Eileen Kaslana! Get out here!"
"Hey, hey, hey?!... Professor Dumbledore, let go of me, you promised to buy me a pet, how can you not keep your word!"
Dumbledore, who had just entered the store, didn't hesitate at all. With a dark face, he grabbed the silver-haired little girl's collar and dragged her out—he must have been temporarily blinded by something. From the beginning, he shouldn't have expected that this little guy who dared to bite even a phoenix would buy a pet quietly.
