Chapter 336: Assets in Place

It was morning now and the plan was almost underway. Jace had sent Vana and Nila to sabotage and disable the military vessel. Now they were all ready for the Republic to start this parade. Jace was climbing the stairs to the roof of the Republic’s founding building. It stood on the same spot as the former emperor’s castle had stood. It was actually the place where their high level officials gathered for meetings and to establish and change current laws.

Asana and Josef were on the ship which was situated a distance from the capital and cloaked in invisibility. They were on standby in case the rest of the squad needed a fast extraction. It was unlikely to happen, but the possibility that Jace did not account for something still existed. So they had kept the ship and two of their members in reserve in case of an emergency.

Rook and Jul’an were situated near the building so they could rush in and secure the first floor of the founding building. It would not be a difficult task but they would have to hold a position and cover the others as they retreated into the building and then set up. Which also meant they would have to be able to set up security measures quickly while the chaos outside unfolds.

Then there was Vana and Nila, both of them were currently invisible and waiting near a position behind the parade platform where General Kyln would give his speech. His Mech was already there set up some time earlier this morning. He should be inside the building now talking with high level political assets of the republic. They would be the trigger for the attack, when they killed the people up on stage, the rest of the squad would move into action.

Finally there was Ulin, Uti, and Charlie. They were all wearing cloaks and disguised in the crowd. With Uti actually looking a lot like a shy child as he stood between them and held their hands. It was an incredibly amusing sight to him and the rest of the squad. They were positioned to attack any unexpected enemies from the crowd and cause chaos. If there were no additional enemies they would fire on the mechs that are in the parade and disable them.

The last person was Jace. He was coming up to the roof to get a view of the crowd below and activate the last of their assets. But as he arrived at the metal door that would lead out to the roof he could hear muffled voices on the other side. But they were close enough to kickoff that it should be fine to just get rid of them.

So as Jace pushed open the door one of his hands drew his knife while the other pulled causing the camera that was watching the door to overload and look like a malfunction to anyone that checked it. The soldiers were situated on either side of the door. So when he opened it up it blocked the view of one of the soldiers while the other was located right next to him.

Jace’s knife sliced through the throat of the first soldier as he moved past the door. His body had not even collapsed to the ground when Jace moved around the door and kicked the other soldier into the wall before stabbing the knife right into his skull and then pulling it to the side. The knife split the soldier’s skull open and he began falling over dead as Jace walked toward the edge of the roof as he sheathed his blade and turned invisible again.

He looked out over the edge and into the area below which had been set up for the parade with a crowd already gathered and several news groups waiting with their equipment. Jace focused on the assets they had positioned just at the edge of the crowd. There were three of them. One was situated on the same side as Ulin, Uti, and Charlie. While the other two were on the other side.

Jace could sense as he connected to the humanoid machines. They were not sentient in the least. They were more like remote controlled machines. Their names were Hollows. They were designed with a remote pilot in mind. But Jace developed an ability that lets him remote control them from a distance. So once he was connected he moved away from the edge of the roof.

But he could still ’see’ through the eyes of the hollows. The electrical power through their bodies was what was allowing him to control them. The Hollows were similar to Cain’s body with the advanced musculature and internals. But Jace could control them like they were an extension of his own body. But it did leave him busy mentally speaking. Which was why Nila was commanding the rest of the squad while he completed his part.

Jace walked back to the stairs where pools of blood were already gathering from the soldier’s bodies. Jace walked past them and moved down the stairs. As he walked down he caught sight of a soldier walking up with a quick shuffle.

"They just had to break a camera today." The soldier grunted. "Fortunately I am the only one on camera duty. But why won’t they respond to my calls." The soldier was talking to himself as he walked right up next to Jace.

Jace grabbed him by the chin and back of the head. Causing the soldier to squeak in surprise. Which was followed by a sickening crack as his head was twisted so far that the skin on his neck split. If Jace had put any more force into it he could have torn the man’s head right off.

Jace continued down the stairs. He arrived at the ground floor and walked to the spot where a hidden elevator was located. "Almost ready to begin the operation. Has the General arrived yet?" Jace asked as he watched the elevator door open as he walked through the empty hall.

He raised an eyebrow and scooted to the side. Then watched as the same General he was talking about walked out. "Negative. He has not yet appeared."

"He is about to." Jace responded as he slipped onto the now empty elevator. Then used his power to have the elevator descend. Forcing the electricity through.
