Jace rode down the elevator as it went deep underground. He should now be entering the hidden underground meeting bunker.
The bunker was originally a vault where valuables were kept. But when the Grand Hexarian Empire divided the New Hexarian Republic, the republic spent some manpower on converting the former palace into the founding building. As well as converting the hidden vault into an underground bunker where they could conduct meetings away from the public's view. MILD has known about the bunker since it was founded. They were not the only ones either, almost every intelligence group out there had learned about it. They were able to keep the secret from the general public but that was about it.
Which was why it was so strange that it was not more heavily guarded. The elevator arrived at the bottom floor and he stepped out after the doors opened. Across a hall was a pair of metal doors that were slightly ajar. Standing near them were a pair of guards. They both looked over as the door made a dinging noise upon arrival.
"Hey did that elevator door just open?" One of the guards asked.
"Looks like it. What are you going to say, that it is haunted or something? Just like the bathroom is?" The other guard asked with a chuckle. Causing the first guard to begin mumbling.
Jace walked past them and slipped through the pair of metal doors. Inside he saw four different doors. He moved to the farthest one where he could hear voices. Glancing at the windows of the other three rooms as he moved past them. They were all empty meeting rooms.
The last one, the one with occupants, had over a dozen people inside. He looked through the window into the room and could see most of the occupants were Republic political assets who were on the list of secondary targets. There were also a few Republic military Generals. Along with one or two guards. But at the end of the table one person stuck out in particular.
One person that Jace was definitely not expecting to be located here. The one person that MILD had been struggling to track down. But here he was with a personal guard that was in full Infantry Armor. Cassius Vexical, the First Prince of the former Vexical Empire. It seems that Cassius had allied himself with the Republic.
"This is not something we can discuss lightly. We need to get serious about how we are going to divide the Vexical Empire once we are done conquering it. While I am fine with giving the former prince a portion of it, I do not think we should hand over the Vexical system. That system will be a feather in the cap of whoever holds it." One of the generals insisted.
"Only if we manage to hold it. It would be a waste of manpower and resources to even take it. Then there is that whole plague thing in the Crystoph Federation. That would put the plague right on our doorstep." One of the politicians stood up and pointed out before slamming his fists on the table.
"I feel like you are forgetting that we still have to conquer the Empire's former territories. Even their criminals are difficult to deal with. You know this from the people we have been capturing who come from that part of space. So we also have to worry about the common people. How are we going to deal with that?" Another of the politicians asked but he was more restrained and relaxing in his chair.
One of the military Generals chuckled, "that part is easy. Mass genocide should put them in their place. We did the same thing with the minority groups and it worked just fine. I doubt our people will mistake them as normal humans. I would be more worried about the whispers of rebellion. There have been whispers of revolutions in other countries as well."
The entire meeting room devolved into a yelling and shouting match between most of the occupants. Except the First Prince and another person that was near the head of the table. They were just quietly waiting.
"I am in position." Jace informed his squad. Getting a beep in response from Nila.
"Quiet." A single word spoken with a low tone of voice by the older man that was sitting near the First Prince was enough to shut up the rest of the room. "I think we can first agree we need to conquer the Empire's territories first. Which brings us to our next point of discussion. We need to legitimize our claim on the territories. So we need to spend time finding and kidnapping the former Emperor's children. We already have the First Prince here, but others will try to lay claim with the other children."
"Which is why I provided you with both the Registry of the Vexical Family and Hex Family. I assume you have managed to decode them?" The First Prince looked to the older man who nodded.
"We did indeed. It was a far simpler code than we expected. It was just an older human written language so it took us a moment. Now we just need to find them. I assume the Vexical Empire's communication network would be useful for this?" The man asked in turn.
"Indeed, you just need an appropriate station." The First Prince answered before looking at the large screen in the room. They had the news on constantly but now it appeared they were about to start with General Kyln's speech before the parade. "I assume you want to watch this."
The older man chuckled, "of course. General Kyln is about to make a speech that will mark the beginning of a new era for the Republic. After today, we will lose the label 'New' that we added to our country's name."
They all turned and looked at the screen as General Kyln stood proudly and looked around. Meanwhile Jace pulled the Wildfire Assault Rifle from his back and looked at the various targets. Picking which ones he should take out first.
