"Mason, are you going to defend her?" Cymbeline Jennings couldn't believe her eyes were wide open.
Wasn't it said that Mason didn't like his newly married wife at all?
"Eleanor, talking is one thing, but taking action makes you quite disrespectful." Mason's tone was calm, yet the calmness carried a chill that crept up the back of the neck, his profound gaze bringing a strong sense of oppression.
"You mentioned family discipline." He curled his lips into a smile, "She is my wife now. If we speak of family discipline, it should be up to me to teach her. Eleanor, do you have any objections to how I discipline my wife?"
Cymbeline found herself momentarily speechless, feeling as if her body was frozen in place. The oppressive presence from Mason was too overwhelming for her as a mere woman to withstand.
Moreover, Aurelia noticed that Mason didn't hide his hostility in the least. Even her husband, Steele Spencer, standing in front of Mason, couldn't maintain composure, let alone her.
How could Cymbeline dare to express her objections?
The Spencer Family couldn't compare to the Nightshade Family. Her daughter connecting with the Nightshade Family was thanks to her close relationship with Mason's mother, Sophie Nye, since childhood.
But Sophie might respect her, while Mason may not necessarily do the same. Although he appeared amicable, she could sense Mason's superiority over her.
This was precisely why she was determined to have her daughter marry into the Nightshade Family, becoming Lady Nightshade.
Cymbeline's expression changed several times before she forced a smile, "How could I think that way? Though she married you, her previous upbringing was taught by her family. One's nature doesn't change in a year or so, let alone mere months. One must always be cautious. Aunt was just reminding you to be careful, lest something is done behind your back without your knowledge."
These words were too harsh, even Amanda Fuller couldn't hold back.
"You old hag, you dress well enough, why do you speak so nastily!"
"What did you say!" Cymbeline turned angrily towards Amanda Fuller, pointing at her in rage, "Like people, like friends!"
"Enough!" Mason growled lowly. His gaze towards Cymbeline seemed calm but was actually chilling enough to make one's bones tremble, "Eleanor, you've gone too far with your words, you should watch your status!"
Cymbeline shivered, unconsciously stepping back two steps. Mason was threatening her!
"Brother Nightshade, don't be angry. My mommy disciplined me strictly since childhood and disapproves of improper behavior." Isabel Bennett stepped in to mediate, simultaneously stepping on Aurelia.
Mason's brows furrowed deeply. He originally intended to say something, but upon catching sight of Aurelia's indifferent expression, he stopped himself. Let her handle the face-smacking—he was by her side, and no one could bully her. Whoever she wanted to slap, she could.
She was so clever, surely she knew these things, and wouldn't miss the chance to "use" him.
Aurelia lifted her head, meeting Mason's gaze. Her lively, almond eyes glittered with innocence, "Mason, earlier Eleanor said that like people, like friends, and Isabel called me improper. Then you married me, what kind of person are you?"
"You! I didn't say that!"
Aurelia's lips curved into a slight smile, "Really? Then what did you say? How about you repeat it for us?"
"I..." Isabel was left speechless by her rebuttal, and Cymbeline realized Isabel wasn't a match for Aurelia, especially with Mason protecting her. They were at a disadvantage no matter what.
