Chapter 480: War board
"Sure, but are you worth that much?" Damon teased him a little.
For a moment there was no response but then came the trademark arrogant reply. "Hmph. I am worth double that."
Damon let out a short laugh. "We’ll see. Just be at the blood hall as soon as you can. And don’t screw this up, genius."
Before the kid could spout more nonsense, he cut the call. He stood still for a moment, a small smirk lingering on his lips. Despite the brat’s ego, he was a damn good fighter and not a bad person at all. The man he had admired in his last life was still in the kid. That alone made him a valuable ally. He did not mind giving the kid a little here and there at all.
Still, Damon couldn’t help but wonder about one thing. That legendary item... He was curious just how much progress the kid had managed to make with it.
"Well I guess I would have to wait and see."
He closed off the system interface and then closed his eyes to settle himself for a moment. Blood red wings sprouted on his back as he silently rose up in the air after activating his stealth. He went higher and higher until he could see the distance cities.
From up there he could see all of Niera laid out like a war board.
Outside the city, the light forces formed a glittering wall. Lines of foot soldiers stood shoulder to shoulder. Their shields and their armor caught the sun and flashed like a river of metal. Knights on horseback held ranks, their lances pointing forward in deadly rows.
Siege engines, ballistas and giant crossbows were set up behind them. Priests and clerics in white and gold chanted in groups, their voices rising in a steady rhythm. Runes of holy light floated above some banners. Every now and then a priest raised a hand and a column of divine fire bloomed in the distance, testing the air.
Among them stood the main big shots, peak C rank powerhouses. Knights, priests and mages who held the higher power in the Kingdom. They were the main forces of the Kingdom and they were here right from the get-go.
While Ellora and Kaelthorn were also C rank experts, these powerhouses were in a completely different league. The attack power of a mid C rank expert and a peak C rank expert couldnät be compared.
It looked like this time, the Kingdom was pretty adamant about erasing the black mark from its territory.
Damon smiled. This much he was prepared for. His 2.5 billion gold coins had bought him an equivalent army from the vampire clans. But this was not all he needed to face today. Thanks to his friends, he had a lot more unwelcomed guests.
On the eastern side, an army of players had gathered. Shockingly, each and every single one of them were atleast level 70. At this point, an average player in the game was only level 30 but every member of this guild were already at level 70, displaying their terrifying strength and capabilities.
That was not all. Apart from the level, they were also obviously dressed from top to bottom in sparkling items and armor. Just a single look would confirm that most of the items were atleast rare grade. Many even possessed epic grade items.
While not all Epic grade items were the same, Epic grade items still were leagues above other items, even if they were lower leveled. Coupled with the level restrictions for items in general, these were pretty much the best the players could get.
And in total, there were not just one or two of these overgeared players, not even one dozen or two dozen. All five hundred players who were assembled today were top-tier and pretty much unstoppable.
This was not all.
On the western side, a similarly overpowered army stood ready. The Southern Vanguards. Their banners were different colors, but the message was the same, top players, top gear, and zero fear.
They had tanks up front, heavy mages in the middle, and rogue-like skirmishers spread into loose formations, ready to dart into the battleground. A handful of flying mounts circled above them, scouts looking for weak spots in the city walls.
There were a total of 700 of these impressive players, ready to wreck havoc.
Between the two player forces, Niera was surrounded like a prize in a ring. The light kingdom’s army formed the core line, but the player groups on either flank changed everything.
The best part was that there was a third army on the southern side, apart from these three armies. When compared to these three, the last one was neither organized nor top-tier. Everything was just chaos. The players were randomly arranged. Their gear was mis-matched and not the best. Their skill levels and actual levels were not particularly impressive.
But their numbers were terrifying!
There were about five thousand of the chaotic players gathered on the southern road. They were noisy and messy with no real formation, no commanders yelling orders. But numbers could beat skill.
They shouted, they bet on loot, and they surged forward like a tide. If those five thousand hit a weak point at once, even the best defenses could crack.
Especially considering that this was not the early phase of the game any longer. Many players had crowd control skills, movement immobilization skills and stunning skills. With these kind of skills going around, even if it was Damon he wouldn’t be able to easily slaughter through such an army.
Damon watched it all from above. They were essentially surrounded on all sides with armies possessing different strengths and powers. In front of these powers, the vampire army spread out within Niera city looked completely insignificant.
They absolutely had no chance against these terrifying armies. To make matters worse, more and more players were continuing to trickle to the southern side, further increasing the numbers.
The whole set up was basically a checkmate.
And Damon knew this couldn’t possibly be the only surprise they had in store for him.
