Chapter 293: Woah, the sky is cracking!
"Did you really think that little pep talk would make that failure of a hero strong enough to beat me?" Carleen still had her hand around Kurami’s neck, gripping it tighter with each breath she took.
"No, but via the power of plot armor, Barry should have beaten you. That was in the script." Honestly, Kai was starting to get annoyed. Barry was a hero, and he was weak as fuck. Kurami was back at full strength, had her power increased by him, and was using the spirit orbs, and still lost.
Now, he had to handle things himself.
"If this were Sarkylla, I would have been hands-on in this battle and killed you myself. But this is Eridani, and I’m not the hero of this place. I wanted to allow Barry to shine; I wanted to allow his companions to gain the power to make a difference themselves. But to have me step in and fight this battle."
Carleen exploded in laughter. There was no one who could beat her in the spirit world. This was the reason why the demon lord sent her here. She knew that Kai and the others came from outside, but if she could beat the hero, then who could stop her?
"You’re cute, I might just make you my little slave." Carleen
"No thanks, I’m not attracted to bitches."
"You’ll be the bitch once I’m done with you." She licked her lips and eyed Kai up and down.
"Ha, haha, yeah, no." Kai beamed her down with his heat vision and burned her to death in an instant. She didn’t even stand a chance and wasn’t able to register that she was killed in the first place.
"W-What?!" Everyone froze. They weren’t expecting Kai to kill Carleen like that. Hell, most of them didn’t even know Kai was that powerful.
"W-What just happened?! Am I seeing things? Is this an illusion?" One of the spirits asked
"No, it’s not. He’s a hero. Goddess Gracia’s Hero." Karl told everyone.
"A hero?!"
"Seriously?!"
"HOLY SHIT!"
"All of y’all suck, by the way. None of you followed the script, and you all lost. You’re all fired! How come none of you could beat her?"
Gwen rested her hand on his shoulder. "Kai, she was just too strong, like when you almost lost to Dante."
That brought back some unpleasant memories for Kai. That was the only time when he actually struggled against an opponent, and he did not want to remember that. Ever since that day, he has made sure to always be stronger than his opponents.
"Okay, fine, I’ll allow it. Barry, get your dumbass up."
"S-Sorry."
’He beat the Demon Lord just like that? I’m getting so wet! I want him so bad!’ Karumi nearly forgot about her mother as she was entranced by Kai’s power, and she only remembered her when she heard a cough.
"Mother! Are you okay?" Karumi helped Kurami up, putting her mother’s arm over her shoulder.
"I-I’m fine. I’m sorry that I wasn’t able to finish her off, Hero Kai. Thank you for coming to our aid."
He shrugged. "Sure. Now that she’s dead, you might want to start making the spirit world your domain again, because the sky is cracking."
Heads looked up toward the sky and all their jaw dropped.
"What the fuck?!"
"Run!"
"Run? Where the fuck are we supposed to go?"
"Underground!"
"Nah, the ground is cracking too." Kai pointed out.
"Oh god!"
"Help us!"
Kai healed Kurami and told her to get to work.
"Everyone, please calm down. I promise not to let any harm come to any of you." With the crown and spirit orbs in Kurami’s possession, she tapped into the essence of the spirit world.
The resistance she felt was like nothing she had ever felt before. The sheer pressure of the demonic spirit world crashed down on Kurami’s spirit and nearly broke her. Blood started trailing from her eyes and nose while she coughed some of it up as well.
Her skin started to crack, and demonic energy made its way up her body.
"Mother!" Karumi rushed to her side and tried to help her, but Kai grabbed her arm to stop her from making that mistake.
"If you touch her, then you will be affected as well." Kai actually had no idea if that was the case, but everyone in movies would act as if they knew, so he just copied them.
"WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!"
The spirit world bellowed, shaking violently as a storm of energy erupted from the surface. A massive wave of the flaming water crashed onto the surface, nearly sweeping away everyone. But in the nick of time, Nadya protected everyone.
"Was that a baby?"
"We need to get out of here!"
"Calm down, you dumbass! We can’t go anywhere! Trust in Lady Kurami, we have no choice but to put our faith in her."
Kurami continued to try her best to get the spirit world back under control, under her control, but it was too corrupted. Her body continued to take damage from the demonic energy, and the world wasn’t accepting her like it normally would.
She felt her life slipping away; she felt the spirit world slipping away. She knew she couldn’t bring things back to the way they were, not after the corruption Carleen put the world through.
’I have to do this! I have to make sure my people survive! I can’t let them die!’
"We’re totally gonna die." Kai took matters into his hands and injected his power into Kurami. Her eyes beamed a bright blue light, and all of the demonic energy was purged from her body.
With this newfound strength, she was able to fully purge the influence of the demons from the spirit world, completely transforming it back into the paradise it was before. The land healed, all traces of demon activity were gone, and the people who lost their lives were resurrected.
"She did it! Yess! She did it!"
"Lady Kurami! I always believed in you!"
"Praise the Divine Spirits!"
Kurami opened her eyes and exhaled deeply. "Thank you." She smiled at Kai. She knew that without his help, everything would have been lost.
"No problem."
