Chapter 401: Chapter 399: Shelter Renovation

"Lan, Dragon Lady, do you think there are any areas in the shelter that need modifications?" In his shelter, Chen Xin spread out a blueprint of the current shelter on the table and asked Qin Lan and Mo Qingyan, who were sitting in the room.

Since deciding to upgrade his shelter along with the planned research base and military camp, Chen Xin decided to seek everyone’s opinion on how to adjust his shelter.

As Chen Xin questioned, the blueprint spread on the table projected a 3D model, with pale blue lines forming the structure of the current shelter, thoughtfully accompanied by textual explanations.

Looking at the shelter’s projection before her, Qin Lan curiously asked Chen Xin, "Are you planning to renovate the shelter, Xin?"

"Yes, I previously accepted the title of the highest academician awarded by the state, along with the corresponding benefits, including the construction of a research base for me. I intend to place this research base on top, while simultaneously renovating the shelter." Chen Xin explained to Qin Lan, also giving them a glance: "Previously, only I lived here, and the renovations merely added a few rooms and adjusted the structure. But now, with you, Mom and Dad, and Han Ping and his brother living here, it’s better to renovate it again."

"That’s true, but renovating the shelter involves a large amount of construction, with walls to break and earth and stone to excavate, isn’t it a bit too much trouble? The shelter is quite comfortable now, I feel there’s no need to fuss." Mo Qingyan shook her head after listening to Chen Xin, seemingly not supporting the renovation of the shelter.

This was understandable, since if not using system upgrades, from a normal person’s perspective, wanting to undertake a large-scale renovation of an already built underground shelter indeed involves significant construction, which Mo Qingyan saw as unnecessary.

Chen Xin did not refute, just nodded slightly, but still asked them, "About the construction issues, I’ll handle them. Without considering construction problems, do you think there are any areas in the shelter that could be improved?"

Upon hearing Chen Xin’s question, Qin Lan and Mo Qingyan exchanged a look, not understanding why Chen Xin wanted to modify the seemingly comfortable shelter, but they didn’t strongly oppose Chen Xin either, as just drafting a design and posing ideas was harmless.

Therefore, after considering for a moment, Qin Lan was the first to speak, "I think it would be nice to have a fighting training room. This time, Xin, you were assassinated. If you had undergone some fighting training, reacted faster, that person wouldn’t have easily caught you by the throat."

"A fighting training room? That can be added, and it can also be used for exercising," Chen Xin thought for a moment and agreed, feeling it was a good suggestion. After all, he had considered setting up a place for exercise before, but got too busy and forgot.

As he agreed, Chen Xin touched the blueprint, adjusted it a few times, and extended a room next to the medical room on the first floor, making the area quite large.

Seeing Chen Xin enlarging the space on the blueprint, Mo Qingyan, assuming he was just planning, half-jokingly said, "In that case, I think we could specifically design a poultry farm. Although the growing greenhouse area is still sufficient, the chicks are growing bigger. To raise chickens or other poultry, a larger area is needed."

Mo Qingyan’s suggestion was serious. The hens and chicks that Chen Xin raised from the eggs were kept in the growing greenhouse, but only a small area was fenced for these chickens to roam, which wasn’t very big.

As the chicks were gradually growing, the space was clearly becoming cramped.

If Chen Xin didn’t want to cage them, like poultry farms where chickens are confined from chick to slaughter, then creating a larger area as a feeding ground was necessary.

Therefore, after Mo Qingyan’s suggestion, Chen Xin also extended a space next to the original growing greenhouse to serve as a poultry farm.

Chen Xin also adjusted the structure and position of the growing greenhouse and the shelter’s overall floor height, exposing the top of the growing greenhouse above ground.

"Eh? Why expose the greenhouse roof above ground?" Qin Lan was puzzled by Chen Xin’s modification.

The entire shelter was located underground to avoid various natural disasters caused by previous meteor impacts, the growing greenhouse naturally wrapped in soil. But now Chen Xin adjusted to expose the greenhouse top above ground, making people confused.

"In Lin City, I observed that during the time of day originally strongest in sunlight, the sky appeared faintly bright," Chen Xin said something seemingly unrelated to the greenhouse roof exposure but soon explained, "The dust in the sky is expected to gradually fall within a year and restore the original sunlight level in about three years."

Although a large amount of dust remains in the stratosphere affecting sunlight, overall, the sky will brighten, and the light intensity will reach the level of strong haze weather in three years.

Under such light intensity, plants grow slowly, but with supplemental lighting, crops can still be normally planted. Therefore, I exposed the greenhouse top above ground for this purpose, to use transparent glass and light panels on the greenhouse top to gather sunlight and provide light to the crops."

"I see, you plan to use light panels to refract sunlight into the greenhouse?" Mo Qingyan suddenly understood Chen Xin’s vision.

This method of refracting sunlight for lighting has been used since ancient times. Many skyscrapers in modern architecture have adopted similar designs, using light panels on the building exterior to refract sunlight into the interior for lighting, thus reducing artificial lighting usage.

"This is indeed a good design, but wouldn’t the shelter undergo major renovations?" Qin Lan, observing Chen Xin’s blueprint modifications, asked somewhat uncertainly.

Qin Lan’s question was valid because if Chen Xin really did this, the modifications to the shelter would be substantial.

Chen Xin simply nodded and added some more elements to the blueprint before answering, "The state will cover this renovation, so I might as well add back some designs I abandoned before due to various reasons."
