Chapter 1472: Chapter 1521: Leaving After the Matter is Settled
The car body skidded against the stones, sparking wildly. Inside, the occupants were in a sorry state. Apart from the driver, the other three were tossed around without seat belts, unable to even think of fighting back.
Meng Xiaofei, in the front, remembered Li Yifei’s words. Seeing the two cars behind them falling further away, she considered slowing down. But with Sophia in pursuit, Meng Xiaofei steeled herself, stepped hard on the accelerator, and surged forward.
Li Yifei had already forced the car with Motoharu off the road, one of its tires sunk into a drainage ditch.
Li Yifei slightly reduced his speed, then slammed the accelerator again, charging the car forward to slam its front into the side of their vehicle.
This time, the car carrying Motoharu was finally forced to stop. The two vehicles ended up side by side. Before the cars had even completely halted, Li Yifei, with one hand on the steering wheel, lifted his submachine gun and fired at Motoharu.
The burst of gunfire erupted, but Li Yifei wasn’t foolish enough to waste bullets on the bulletproof glass without a plan.
This level of bulletproof glass could withstand individual bullets, but successive hits on a single spot would eventually pierce through.
After taking out the driver, the two stuck cars rolled forward a few dozen meters, then came to a halt.
Pushing open the car door, Li Yifei discarded the expended submachine gun, pulled out a handgun from the passenger seat, checked for bullets, and exited the vehicle.
His steps were unsteady, but his expression was filled with an unyielding determination, eyes shimmering with a cold killing intent. His entire aura exuded a foreboding menace, standing like a deity descended to the mortal realm.
Motoharu had just gotten to his feet when he saw the deadly specter of Li Yifei through the window. He scrambled to find his gun, but it was too late. Li Yifei’s weapon was already pressed against the window. The co-driver, secretly reaching for his own gun to shoot, was promptly gunned down by Li Yifei, leaving Motoharu frozen in fear.
"Get out!" Li Yifei’s voice croaked, his eyes icy as glaciers.
Motoharu understood some Chinese and didn’t dare disobey. Beside him, his subordinate suddenly shouted and produced a submachine gun, firing madly at Li Yifei.
Li Yifei dodged, evading the barrage. The bulletproof glass shattered, the shards covering Motoharu. In a panic, he picked up his gun and returned fire at Li Yifei.
Li Yifei twisted on the ground, rolling under the vehicle to avoid the bullets.
It wasn’t that he didn’t fire back at Motoharu earlier; his gun had unexpectedly jammed. As he dove under the car, the trigger still refused to budge.
The gunfire ceased, an unnatural silence enveloped the scene. Inside the car, Motoharu and his nervous subordinate were on edge, acutely aware of Li Yifei’s presence beneath them. Yet neither dared exit to confront him, while Li Yifei could sense their positions clearly.
Though only seconds passed, to the two inside, it felt like an eternity. Ominous clouds converged overhead once more, with thunderclaps so loud they made Motoharu’s heart skip a beat. Staring wide-eyed at his subordinate, he struggled to hold his breath, as if his chest had been emptied, desperate to breathe deeply.
Li Yifei remained motionless beneath the car. With no gun in hand, rushing out would make him an easy target. He held several pebble-sized stones tightly, ready for action.
The heavens unleashed a torrential downpour, transforming the world into a curtain of rain. The heavy patter masked many sounds, like the subtle movements of Li Yifei beneath the car, unknown to those inside.
Motoharu and his subordinate kept watch from each side, the latter nervously swallowing copious amounts of saliva.
They wished for extra eyes, two for the front, two for the back.
Another rumbling clap of thunder exploded overhead. Motoharu recoiled, aiming his gun in that direction, just as Li Yifei sprang into action. In a swift move, he slid out from under the car, launching two stones. One ricocheted off a rock wall onto the subordinate’s window; the other struck the car Li Yifei had captured.
Motoharu and his subordinate instinctively opened fire, pistols and submachine guns riddling the exterior, convinced Li Yifei was outside.
By the time they realized their error and turned back, Li Yifei had already appeared behind them. Motoharu wheeled around to shoot, but Li Yifei vanished once more.
Where is he? Motoharu fired a few rounds, shattering the rear window just as Li Yifei reappeared. He reached over, grabbed Motoharu’s subordinate, fingers clamping down on his neck, commandeering the submachine gun. Motoharu instinctively fired, the bullets tearing into his own man, while Li Yifei, now armed, vanished again.
The rain was pouring so heavily that Motoharu could not hear a single sound.
A stone flew over, and Motoharu only had time to close his eyes before it hit his mouth. Instantly, several teeth shattered, and the intense pain made it impossible for him to discern where Li Yifei was.
Li Yifei was already standing by the car, about to reach for Motoharu when he noticed a few cars approaching from behind. Li Yifei recognized these cars; the people in the leading car were already preparing to shoot at him. He had to abandon Motoharu, turning to run toward the car he had hijacked.
Motoharu clutched his mouth, tears streaming down his face. The excruciating pain left him no time to care whether Li Yifei had fled until the subordinates from the four cars he had previously shaken off surrounded him, making him realize he was out of danger, having just escaped from the Grim Reaper.
In that situation earlier, if caught by Li Yifei, it would have only taken a few seconds for him to be killed.
His subordinates surrounded Motoharu fearfully, staring at his pitiful appearance without daring to speak.
"Chase... chase him!" Motoharu shouted hoarsely; he had been so scared he wet himself, his crotch now damp.
The subordinates exchanged glances, hurriedly got into the cars, and lifted Motoharu into one of them.
Having narrowly escaped death, Motoharu did not intend to continue the chase himself; instead, he called to muster more men, planning to encircle Li Yifei.
The subordinates regarded the scene’s brutality, seeing nearly no survivors. They dared not pursue either; life was given by their parents, and they were unwilling to offer it to Li Yifei just like that.
Thus, after Li Yifei drove several kilometers, he saw no one following. He made a sharp turn onto a narrow road where there was a river nearby. Li Yifei floored the gas pedal, opened the car door, and jumped out while the car plunged into the river, slowly sinking. Stumbling away for over a hundred meters, he collapsed onto the ground, losing consciousness.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to escape to a safe location; he simply couldn’t manage it. His fight with Yanagio Inujiro had nearly drained his energy and True Qi. Though he had recovered slightly in the car, the recent desperate exertion depleted him completely, plunging him into severe unconsciousness. If Motoharu dared to catch up, he would surely kill Li Yifei.
Yet fate can be quite miraculous; Li Yifei’s series of counterattacks earlier had already scared Motoharu enough to wet himself, and he dared not pursue further.
Meng Xiaofei drove tens of kilometers in one go, intermittently following Li Yifei’s instructions to call Koboto Kobayashi and Aoki Reiko. Upon hearing the news, both immediately mobilized.
Aoki Reiko was utterly scared; from the moment she sent Li Yifei off, she had anxiously awaited news of him. Aoki Ryota was actually at home too; unsure of how to face Li Yifei, he hadn’t come out to see him off in the morning. Li Yifei’s survival, while beneficial to the Aoki Family, posed a risk if he were to die, the consequences would befall the Aoki Family.
Receiving the call, Aoki Reiko was first delighted, then her face turned pale. She urgently pleaded with her father to contact someone to retrieve Li Yifei.
Upon hearing Li Yifei’s victory, Aoki Ryota was stunned for a while, continuously pondering how strong Li Yifei must be to have defeated Japan’s Martial God Yanagio Inujiro. Upon hearing about the Yamaguchi Group’s hunt for Li Yifei, he immediately started making calls to contact helpers, even notifying the police.
Meanwhile, Koboto Kobayashi’s heart had been uneasy, equally concerned about Li Yifei’s safety. Learning that Li Yifei was unharmed, Koboto Kobayashi leaped three feet high, not caring even when his head hit the door frame. Hearing that Motoharu led a pursuit of Li Yifei, Koboto Kobayashi became furious, swiftly assembling his men and contacting nearby Yamaguchi Group members to intercept Motoharu and rescue Li Yifei.
If he failed to act now and allowed Motoharu to kill Li Yifei, Koboto Kobayashi wouldn’t lose much, as without Yanagio Inujiro’s support, he didn’t care much for Motoharu. But if Li Yifei escaped... even if Koboto Kobayashi offered tons of money later, the other side wouldn’t forgive him, marking the end of Koboto Kobayashi.
Hence, he needed to stand up now to assist Li Yifei, which was to assist himself as well.
Koboto Kobayashi did have malicious intentions previously, attempting to harm Li Yifei, but the thought of the repercussions made him hesitate.
What a joke, Yanagio Inujiro, the entire Japan’s Martial God, failed to kill Li Yifei, and Motoharu thought his petty minions could? It was nothing more than a last, desperate attempt before death.
With this mindset, Koboto Kobayashi led his subordinates in a grand charge, aiming to rescue Li Yifei.
Half an hour later, Meng Xiaofei had already met up with Koboto Kobayashi’s men, quickly arranging for Sophia to be taken to the hospital.
Afterwards, Aoki Ryota’s men arrived as well, even the police showed up; however, in Japan, at times, the police’s words aren’t as effective as the Underworld’s. So, upon hearing it involved Yamaguchi Group members, these police tended to act sluggishly.
