Chapter 269: Chapter 269 Her and Edward Stephens’ first child, just like that, was gone.
Edward Stephens didn’t speak further; he just reached out and held her tightly in his arms.
His body warmth seemed to finally break the calm Daisy Ginger had been forcing herself to maintain. Her slender shoulders started to tremble lightly. She clutched his clothes tightly and let out low sobs while nestled in his embrace.
Their first child together was gone just like that.
*
It was noon when Daisy Ginger went to the hospital for a complete blood count and found out that she was already pregnant.
Although she wasn’t as eager as Edward Stephens for their child, she had subconsciously prepared for the child’s arrival.
She had thought she wouldn’t be too happy, so when losing it, she shouldn’t feel too sad.
But when she felt the blood trickling down her leg, her mind went blank.
It was a suffocating pain even more overwhelming than the blankness during the car accident.
The child was gone.
It was supposed to be a surprise she planned to give him, but it turned into a tragedy in an instant.
Daisy Ginger cried painfully for a long time. She wasn’t a fragile person, but the tears wouldn’t stop.
Edward Stephens held her, and she cried so much that she soaked the fabric of his wool coat on his chest.
Edward was reserved. Though he hadn’t said a word, Daisy Ginger knew his feelings probably weren’t any better than hers.
After all, he was more looking forward to the arrival of their baby than she was.
The traffic police came to take a statement; the owner of the sedan was fully responsible.
The owner of the sedan was an addict and had just taken drugs when he was driving, possibly experiencing hallucinations when he slammed on the brakes.
Though it was his full responsibility, he was the one most severely injured in the accident.
The windshield shattered into pieces and accidentally cut open his carotid artery, and he was still in surgery for it; his parents were poor and drained of their retirement funds by him, likely unable to even afford the compensation for the accident.
Just because of this delinquent, Daisy Ginger lost a child in this car accident and couldn’t possibly get any compensation.
After Daisy learned about this, she fell silent. She needed to be hospitalized for observation for any accident-related complications, and Edward stayed by her side, staying close without leaving.
Seeing her silence, Edward reached out and held her cold fingers in his palm, asking softly, "Do you want to sue?"
If it could make her feel a little better, he’d do anything.
Letting that thug’s family be ruined or die in the operating room, or...
Daisy shook her head, not noticing the darkness in Edward’s eyes, and softly said, "There’s no need. Just a waste of time."
It was just an accident, a coincidence. Even if she’s reluctant, she knows there are endless accidents in the world. She just happened to be unlucky today and encountered it.
"No need to trouble those two elderly people." Daisy bowed her head, "Having that son is already their karma."
Edward said, "Raising such a son, shouldn’t they be punished?"
Daisy still shook her head, feeling there was no need.
To the traffic police, it was just a minor accident, and they hadn’t suffered any personal injury. The drugged driving, at most, would result in five days’ detention and a five-hundred-dollar fine... Moreover, for everyone, the fact that the drugged driver ended up in the emergency room was already the greatest punishment.
