Chapter 270: The Last Winter

Chapter 270: Chapter 270: The Last Winter

At half past midnight, Daisy Ginger received the news.

It was said that the thug driving under the influence, due to excessive blood loss, could not be saved and died in the operating room.

Daisy hadn’t fallen asleep yet, and upon receiving the news, she froze for a moment.

She looked at Edward Stephens, who was also silent for a moment.

Well, Daisy thought, a life for a life, no matter how unwilling, it seems that’s all there is to it.

*

For Daisy, even though it was just a minor miscarriage, the damage to her body was quite significant.

After all, she lost some blood, her physical condition declined, and she quickly caught a cold, having to take time off to rest at home.

The child came suddenly and left suddenly, not causing much harm to their relationship, just that they would have to wait a long time if they wanted a child again.

Edward didn’t mention the child again, putting away the parenting books so they wouldn’t upset Daisy by being on the shelf.

This cold lingered with Daisy for a long time, and even by the time the company took the New Year holiday, she hadn’t fully recovered.

She clearly felt that this miscarriage had indeed harmed her body, and she wasn’t as healthy as before.

They didn’t tell Lady Stephens about the child, firstly not to make her sad, and secondly, because they didn’t see the need.

Due to her persistent cold and fever, Daisy and Edward had to cancel their planned overseas holiday trip and spent the winter days huddled under blankets watching movies to keep warm.

Later, when Daisy thought about that winter, she only remembered it as being extremely cold, the coldest winter in Banyan City’s history, with snow falling for a long time, thick snow accumulating outside the window, yet she and Edward were wrapped in blankets, feeling very warm together.

It was, in her memory, the warmest winter.

Later on, there would never be such a peaceful winter in her life again.

*

Daisy spent a very pleasant Spring Festival.

Lady Stephens went back to the United States for a holiday with her husband, leaving Edward alone at home.

Daisy invited Zoe Hilker and Ethan Pond over, having a spicy hot pot on New Year’s Eve.

The hot pot base was brought by Zoe Hilker, so spicy it could kill. Daisy couldn’t handle spicy food, and had to rinse off the chili oil after every bite, ending up with lips swollen like sausages.

Edward, looking all refined, didn’t seem like he could handle spice either, yet he ate without any change in his expression.

Ethan Pond brought over some beer, and the four of them drank two cases. They were all good drinkers, not too drunk, and after watching the New Year’s Gala, they went out to the yard to set off fireworks.

Daisy’s villa had a large courtyard, perfect for a long play.

Edward and Ethan lit fireworks with cigarettes while Daisy and Zoe Hilker built snowmen in the yard.

In the end, it’s unclear who started it, but they ended up having a snowball fight.

The combined age of the four exceeded a hundred, yet they were childish as elementary school kids.

Of course, the men were gentle and didn’t really fight back, so naturally, Daisy and Zoe Hilker emerged victorious. When Daisy handed Ethan a snowball, he cooperatively bent down, pleading, "Daisy, go easy on me..."

But Daisy unmercifully stuffed the snowball into Ethan’s collar.

In the end, Edward and Ethan were buried in a snowdrift, and Zoe Hilker and Daisy took pictures with their phones for a memento, posting the photos on social media, which earned a schadenfreude-like like from Lady Stephens, who was vacationing in Malaysia.
