Chapter 234: Chapter 234: I’ll Show You How to Fake It!
As the saying goes, the shot hits the bird that sticks out.
However, this bold bird didn’t seem to worry about it for even a second.
What he fears least is betting.
Winning would bring great joy.
If he loses, he accepts it—worrying is useless.
And he would never let himself lose.
Except... in matters concerning one person.
Warren Prescott sat in the car, turned the steering wheel with one hand, and dialed Ashley Shaw’s WeChat call with the other.
But until the call automatically ended, no one picked up.
The car had already driven into the Spectator Tower.
Warren switched to the dialing screen and made a direct call to Ashley Shaw.
The cold mechanical voice prompted, "The number you have dialed is powered off, please try again later..."
Is she asleep?
Warren glanced at the time, twelve fifteen.
Maybe she really is asleep.
But since he was out, he should confirm at her place to be sure.
The car quickly picked up speed, speeding down the dark streets.
Meanwhile,
Ashley Shaw, only a few seconds after retracting a message, saw the message from Warren Prescott that read "Is that how you see me?" when her phone screen suddenly went black.
She was stunned for a moment, quickly realizing her phone had shut down due to a dead battery.
"Ariana..."
Ariana Grant’s eyes were still on the projection; hearing Ashley Shaw’s call brought her back to her senses.
Her cheeks were tinged with a hot blush.
Fortunately, the bedroom was only lit by the projection light, dim enough to hide her unusual expression.
"What’s up?"
"Did you see my charger?" Ashley Shaw asked while rummaging through her bag.
"Wasn’t your charger in your bag? I saw you put it in there with my own eyes."
"I can’t find it..."
"Then I’m afraid there’s nothing I can do. Both Ms. Grant and I have the new models, and our chargers are incompatible with yours."
Ashley Shaw shook her head, "I’m not used to those, and I checked my bag. Couldn’t find it. Maybe it fell somewhere."
Claire Xavier said, "Should I ask the servants at home to look for it?"
"No, it’s fine. I’ll charge it tomorrow when I get back."
It was too late; she didn’t want to disturb others.
Especially since her mother used to work for the Prescott Family, she knew they all worked hard.
"Are you sure you don’t need it?"
"I don’t need it."
Ashley Shaw lay back on the bed; inside were some guests, or rather should be called "contestants".
The host, Owen Sinclair, had exited the screen, and the contestants were forming groups.
The Stardust Team of five people naturally chose to be together without hesitation.
Among the other five big streamers, two chose to team up, while the remaining three decided to go solo.
After all, who would want to split fifty million with others?
Moreover, forming a team would require more resources to survive; being alone might not be worse off than those in teams.
Notably, among them was a girl who chose to team up.
Initially, she wanted to join the Stardust Team but was prompted off-camera that a team couldn’t have more than five members, so she opted for another seemingly easygoing contestant as a teammate.
After forming teams, everyone had different opinions and headed in various directions.
The Stardust Team and the other duo decided to follow a river upstream.
They quickly found a flat mudflat, where a few big boys arranged big stones into a large bed, using the sky as a cover and land as the bed, and fell asleep there.
Ashley Shaw also began feeling sleepy; after saying bye to Claire Xavier, she laid on her pillow, slowly drifting into dreamland.
Claire Xavier was a bit sleepy too, thinking it was amusing watching them find a place to sleep, but once the Stardust Team fell asleep, fatigue caught up with her as well.
However, her phone was still streaming the live broadcast. Seeing Ariana Grant still watching, she didn’t have the heart to turn off the phone, so she placed it under her pillow and went to sleep.
None of the three were aware that in the hallway on the second floor, Cillian had hesitated for a long time about whether to knock on the door.
He held a charger, precisely the one Ashley Shaw accidentally left in his car.
The servant informed him about it late at night.
He recalled that the two inside had phones of different models from Ashley Shaw’s.
Initially, he thought about delivering it but feared he might wake them if they were already asleep.
If he didn’t deliver it, he worried about Ashley Shaw’s phone running out of battery.
In this dilemma, half an hour slipped by.
Only when a servant came upstairs did he quickly leave the charger by the door and calmly head to the third floor.
"Miss Bond, you’ll stay in the second-floor guest room tonight." The servant led Ivy Bond to the guest room door.
The guest room was directly opposite Claire Xavier’s room.
The servant unintentionally glanced down, spotting the charger on the floor, looking surprised.
"Strange, what’s this charger doing here?"
Ivy Bond looked at the charger and then toward the stairs.
Earlier, she saw Cillian go upstairs, but he didn’t look back, so she didn’t call him.
Is this charger...?
Ivy Bond’s eyes flickered with a conjecture.
She reached out and said, "Give it to me; I happen to need a charger too."
"Okay, Miss Bond."
The servant picked up the charger and handed it to Ivy Bond, then opened the door.
The guest room was clean and tidy, just like before she left Westcroft.
Everything seemed the same yet somehow different.
"If you need anything, just press the room’s call bell, I’m in the servant’s room downstairs."
"Thank you, get some rest yourself."
"Goodnight, Miss Bond."
"Goodnight."
Ivy Bond smiled as she saw the servant leave; once the door closed, her smile quickly disappeared.
With a blank expression, she walked to the trash can and threw the charger inside.
After thinking, she fished it out, went to the bathroom, found some scissors, and cut the charger cord into several pieces, feeling a slight relief.
A part-time worker, thinking she could mess with Archie, she should look at herself in the mirror first.
Archie may not see it, but she certainly does.
Ashley Shaw clearly used this as an excuse to let Archie deliver the charger, trying to get close to him—shameless!
Even in front of Ms. Grant, she couldn’t resist flirting with a man; she’s clearly not decent.
"I’ll make you pay! I’ll make you pay!"
She stamped the charger hard under her foot, but suddenly slipped, falling backward—
"Thud!"
With a heavy thud, Ivy Bond’s head hit the floor, falling flat on her back.
"Ah—" she cried out instinctively, clutching her head, feeling a big bump rising on her head.
A servant who hadn’t gone far hurried back to the door and knocked, "Miss Bond, are you alright?"
"It’s fine, it’s fine, I just thought I saw a cockroach."
