Chapter 93: Night Talks

Chapter 93: 93: Night Talks

"You....." Eden hesitated with his words as though thinking about how he was going to phrase it.

His eyes on the campfire. "You said something about knowing how it feels to be misunderstood.."

They were silent for a while as Helen nodded "Mmhmm"

"What’s it about?" Eden asked.

Helen hesitated as though thinking if she was going to tell him or not. Her eyes were on the meat that was being roasted.

"When I lost my parents, everyone said I was the person who killed them" Helen started.

"They said I was the reason they died. They all believed I was, and called me names" She said.

Eden now had his eyes on Helen. Partially surprised and also confused. He didn’t know about this plotline at all.

The book had mentioned that she was an orphan. And that she had started living with her uncle in another city after the death of her parents.

But it never mentioned that she was being bullied in her previous city and accused of being the reason her parents died.

Her character was never that deep. It never had a serious backstory.

She was presented as a simple character. She never had such a pitiful backstory. And this left Eden confused while he stared at her, confused.

What the hell was happening?

"Sometimes I even had to stay up all night while living alone in my late parents house because they would always attack. Trying to burn down the house so I’d die along with the house. They believed I was a curse and a jinx. It was their way of cleansing me off" she said with a soft smile.

"That was harsh..." Eden found himself commenting.

He was truly shocked by the backstory he never knew existed. He really never knew she had anything this deep going in.

"But luckily I survived after some near death experience from unknown attacks and all. My uncle had come and picked me to stay with him" She added.

Helen now stared at Eden who had his surprised eyes on him "So that’s why I say I know how it feels to be misunderstood"

Eden blinked "It must have felt terrible.."

"It did" She shrugged "But yours might be worse, I guess"

Eden said nothing, his eyes on the fire "I don’t know about that..."

"It’ll be okay" Helen commented "It’ll all be okay. Just don’t become who that tag you to be. And it’ll be alright"

They were quiet for a minute as Helen added "And The Crown prince is also a good person. So he’ll protect you if you’re genuine with him. He surely will"

Eden stared at her. Why was she casual saying that?

She was the female lead so shouldn’t she be worried about some villain guy being close to her man like Cordelia was?

Rather she was here giving them her blessings or what?

"Don’t you like him?" Eden randomly asked.

"Huh?" Helen glared at him.

"I mean. He invited you to the banquet personally and all. So it seems you two had something going on. So I was wondering, you probably like him and should be asking me about him or something. Not asking me to get protection by him" Eden explained.

Helen stared at him for a while and then suddenly smiled "Why would I like him?"

Eden blinked "Huh?"

"I mean, why would I like him? Just because he invited me to a banquet?"

"Well..." Eden thought.

"I’m too busy trying to make ends meet at my uncle’s shop to fall for him just because he’s the crown prince " She expressed with a smile.

Eden was shocked. Was she even still the female lead? Why was she suddenly speaking like someone who has brains?

She was supposed to fall for him even though them falling in love made sense or not. It was only destined that they must fall in love.

So why was she saying this?

Eden hesitated wondering if maybe she hasn’t had the opportunity to fall for him.

That was pretty much it because since Eden came, he had snatched Elvis away from her.

And the two leads hadn’t actually had the opportunity to get close.

So Eden figured that that was what was stopping Helen from developing feelings for Elvis.

"So.. you don’t like him?" Eden questioned.

"No. I don’t even know him that much to like him"

"But he’s the popular crown prince. Everyone is obsessed with knowing him and getting his attention. Everyone wants to spend time with him. Every single lady prays to get married to him. So why not you?"

Was it because she was the female lead so she had to be the only one not obsessed with him?

Eden didn’t think so. Because the original novel certainly didn’t go like that.

"Maybe if I knew him better I would actually consider it. But for now, no" She shocked her head.

Eden guessed it was a good thing, right?

She doesn’t have to fight the female for the male lead, right?

"But why are you even bent on making sure I like him or not? Do you perhaps like him?" Helen now had his eyes on him.

Eden almost choked over nothing at the random question. He never thought someone like Helen would be asking that.

"What?" Cough "What are you talking about..." He coughed.

"Why would I like him? I mean... We’re both men so .." He folded his arms.

Helen stared at him for awhile and then struggled "Whatever you say then"

She went back to roasting the meat while Eden stared at her.

He was still confused over the fact that her characterization was taking a turn. One that he didn’t understand how it came about.

Was it because he was now in the novel and got to see more of her?

Or was there some sort of changes going on with her like most of the plotline?

Eden didn’t know what the real reason behind it was.

But one thing he knew for sure was that be liked this new her better.
