Jiang Feng followed Chu Feifei's fingertip and looked over, only to see countless fine lines of rain, now drifting like a broken curtain with the sea breeze, pouring down wherever they reached; indeed, it was a fierce storm!
Jiang Feng dared not be careless, hurriedly got up, ran out to fetch some large leaves, and placed them at the cave entrance. At last, he managed to seal the entrance before the storm hit.
However, this made the inside of the cave extremely dark, the air unbearably damp and cold, and the temperature even lower than before.
But anyway, this was the only place where the two could find shelter from the wind and the rain.
Jiang Feng looked at Chu Feifei, who was already curled up in the grass nest, and asked, "Are you still cold?"
Chu Feifei shook her head, then took the initiative to lift up her warm grass nest, saying, "Uncle, come in quickly too, don't catch a cold!"
Faced with the current unusual circumstances, Chu Feifei actually let go. Jiang Feng wore even less than she did, and Chu Feifei was really afraid he would get cold too.
Jiang Feng hesitated for a moment and had no choice but to crawl into Chu Feifei's grass nest, lying side by side with her for the first time.
The two of them were wrapped together in grass, only their heads sticking out, staring helplessly at the lightning and thunder outside.
"Uncle, how long do you think this rain will last?" Chu Feifei was really afraid of typhoons now. What if it lasted half a day's night like last time? This cave was simply not safe.
"I don't know, but it doesn't look as severe as last time," Jiang Feng comforted her, "Don't think about anything, just get some sleep and rest your spirit. By the time you wake up, maybe the rain will have stopped!"
At the moment, Chu Feifei wasn't in the mood to sleep, but she understood Jiang Feng's point. Rather than staying here overthinking and worsening her mood, it was better to sleep well.
So she cast a deep glance at Jiang Feng, turned over with shy trepidation, closed her eyes, and forced herself to sleep.
Jiang Feng saw Chu Feifei soon forced herself to sleep, shook his head, turned over, and forced himself to sleep as well.
...
After nightfall, the typhoon returned, something no one had anticipated.
In the distant seas, North City Sea Action Department rescue ships were still futilely conducting their rescue operation. Situ Yan stood personally on a rescue ship's deck, staring dazedly at the vast ocean.
The wind and waves suddenly rose, the sea surged, and the rescue ship couldn't continue its voyage and had to return to the harbor temporarily.
"Chief Situ, that's it for today. The typhoon is back, and we need to return." The rescue ship's lead came out and said to Situ Yan.
Situ Yan stood alone at a distance, letting the strong sea wind blow through her hair, without uttering a word.
Gazing at the dark waves of the Sky Sea, she knew that with the onset of this typhoon, the chance of finding Jiang Feng and Chu Feifei was even more remote.
The lead sighed, looking at Situ Yan's pale face. He too looked out at the sea, unable to understand what kind of fortune this Jiang-named man had to inspire such dedication from a stunning beauty of a chief, who would not hesitate to search the sea herself. Alas, it would ultimately be in vain.
"Return!" The lead shook his head, turned around, and ordered, striding away.
...
In the cave.
Amid the lightning and thunder, Jiang Feng and Chu Feifei did not sleep well. With an explosion of thunder outside, Jiang Feng suddenly woke up!
Soon after, Jiang Feng noticed something was very wrong beside him: it was as if a block of ice was right next to him, extremely cold!
He immediately got up to check, and sure enough, something had happened to Chu Feifei!
Chu Feifei, who had shown no adverse reactions before sleeping, now had a face pale as paper, and her lips were so white they had no blood color!
Her brows were lightly furrowed, her whole delicate body uncontrollably trembling, her mouth slightly open, muttering something unintelligible.
"Fei'er, what's wrong?" Jiang Feng hurriedly leaned over, placing a hand on Chu Feifei's forehead. Good heavens, it was shockingly cold, nowhere near a normal human body temperature!
Jiang Feng immediately understood; Chu Feifei had developed a severe low fever!
Spoiled from a young age, her constitution was inherently weak. These past couple of days eating poorly, drinking cold water, and bathing in cold water had weakened her further, reducing her immune system to an exceedingly low level.
Faced with the sudden drop in temperature, all these issues hit at once, and she fell ill!
Worse still, on this desolate island in such adverse weather, there were no emergency medications or ways to keep warm. If the situation continued to worsen, her life would be at risk!
Jiang Feng felt Chu Feifei's pulse, finding her weakness had reached an extreme, her meridians incredibly fragile; he couldn't resolve the problem by infusing Demonic Qi like he did when rescuing Situ Yan. That would mean immense harm — ice and fire both! It might shatter Chu Feifei's meridians under the explosive impact, leaving her life force draining even faster!
"Mm…mm?" Chu Feifei was now in a hazy, confused state, too weak to fully wake up. She vaguely felt someone holding her, and exerted all her strength trying to open her eyes. Yet, what had once seemed a simple act now required all her energy; her eyelids felt as heavy as a thousand pounds!
"Fei'er, how are you? Can you hear me?" Jiang Feng embraced Chu Feifei tightly, trying to transfer his body warmth to her, to keep her from feeling so cold.
"Uncle, I…I…" Chu Feifei opened her mouth wide, wanting to say something but unable to do so. Peering through her blurred vision at Jiang Feng's concerned face, her heart was filled with unprecedented grievance and sadness.
"Fei'er, don't say anything; I know. You're feeling miserable, aren't you? You must hold on. The storm outside will soon pass; we'll be fine very soon. You have to hold on!" Jiang Feng encouraged Chu Feifei.
Chu Feifei shook her head with difficulty, then two lines of tears spilled down her cheeks. She sorrowfully said, "Uncle…I just…dreamt of my dad..."
Hearing this, Jiang Feng was startled; his heart suddenly ached and he was at a loss for words!
"Uncle…I once…watched my mom…die in my arms…now…I see my dad again…" Chu Feifei's tears flowed like rain. In moments of deep sorrow and lethargy, one tends to think of their loved ones. It only intensified her low fever.
Jiang Feng knew whatever he said would be futile now; he just reached out to wipe the tears from her eyes, feeling deeply troubled inside.
"Uncle..." Chu Feifei breathed coldly and weakly said, "I…I want...to go home..."
"I don't want...to die here...I still have...so many...unfulfilled wishes…" Chu Feifei cried out in total despair, icy tears flowing unchecked.
"What nonsense are you speaking? How could I let you die while I'm here?" Jiang Feng frowned, but hugged Chu Feifei even tighter into his arms!
