Chapter 284: Spirit orb of the North Part 1
The team headed toward the north was comprised of Gwen, Amaya, Sasha, and a number of spirits that belonged to the area they were headed to. The residents were feline spirits. Lionkin, Tigerkin, and even Catkin, like Amaya, were native to the north. All spirits, though.
They took Kai’s ship since it was the furthest away from the others. The spirits were a bit hesitant to sail through the flaming waters, but Gwen reassured them that their ship wasn’t from the spirit world, and there were a lot of protection spells on it.
The northern Island was not only the furthest away from the others, but it was also the largest. Because of this, the resistance they would encounter would be the toughest.
"Look alive, everyone, we’re about to face an unknown enemy, but if they are anything like the demons I’ve faced in the material world, then they are not a bunch of pushovers." Gwen stood at the front of the ship, giving a morale-boosting speech.
Kai gave her some advice on the matter, but she told him it wasn’t needed and she could handle giving everyone confidence boosters. Kai asked her to promise not to flash her tits. When she asked why she would do that, he told her that seeing her tits boosts his confidence.
She slapped him for being stupid, but then kissed him for complimenting her.
"Some of you have faced them before and know how dangerous they can be. Their powers can corrupt magic, and looking at the state of this world, they can corrupt spirit energy as well."
Spirits shifted uncomfortably, remembering when they were attacked, and they couldn’t do a thing to stop the demons from taking over.
"But fear not! My sisters and I are here to help! With the three of us leading this charge, we’ll push through their ranks and bring an end to their tyranny! Who’s with me?!"
"YEAHHHHHHHH!"
Just as she finished her speech, they arrived at the northern island. The entire place was razed to the ground from the first assault on the spirit world. Buildings were destroyed, the mark of a civilization once living on the island was gone, bodies of spirits were on display, and a massive fort was erected where the village once was.
"Our home!" One of the spirits nearly lost themselves to anger after seeing their destroyed home.
"Not only did they erase all traces of our tribe, but they also built on our sacred grounds! They deserve death!"
Over at the fort, the demons and human sympathizers spotted the ship coming closer and sounded the alarm.
"Ship! There’s a ship coming!"
"We’re under attack!"
"Everyone to their battle stations!"
The demons, humans included, got into their positions and attacked the ship.
"Fire!"
Hundreds of flaming rocks, fireballs, cannon balls, arrows, demonic spells, and other projectiles were launched toward the ship in full force. There was enough firepower to destroy a large portion of an army.
"Shit! They attacked us!" A spirit started casting a spell to shield everyone.
"Save your strength, the ship’s defenses will hold," Gwen ordered him.
"But-"
"Just wait."
Amaya was excited to see the outcome. Sasha just wanted to get this over with. Gwen was wondering what weapons the ship had, and the spirits were all nervous, hoping their trust in Gwen would not cause them their deaths.
BOOOOM
Firepower rained down on them, rocking the ship and causing the flaming water to splash higher than the ship itself. Every attack causes a loud, powerful explosion that would have destroyed any other ship, but Kai’s own was a different beast.
No attack put a scratch on the shield around Kai’s ship because of how powerful it was. The attacks did pack a punch, but the defenses of the ship were created in mind of facing beings such as Demon Kings, so Kai made sure to go crazy with them.
"T-The ship! Its defenses, it holds!" The spirits shouted with glee, and their morale was higher than ever.
Once the attacks finally finished bombarding the ship, Gwen smiled and prepared for a counterattack.
"Let’s see what this baby can do." Gwen, given full control over the ship, activated the weapons, and a loud humming noise spread across the air.
"Are you fucking kidding me?!" Gwen looked overboard and saw a massive clump of pure, raw, unfiltered, magical energy. Normally, magic is filtered through the body, then further through spells. This means that spells are not as powerful as the mana from nature.
Being a dragonkin, she could feel raw mana and knew when it was being harnessed. She also knew how dangerous it was and how it could be used as a weapon. After all, a dragon’s breath attack was pure mana, and even then, it was still filtered through their bodies.
"EVERYBODY HOLD ON!"
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
The attack was fired from the ship, splitting the water in half, including the land underneath it, and tore through the island, completely obliterating the middle of the fort. A long, burning scar was left where the mana beam had passed, and anything that touched the beam, even if it was a strand of hair, was completely vaporized.
Gwen thought she knew what raw mana attacks should look like, but this was more powerful than she expected. "Fucking hell! Kai! You’re insane!"
"Hahahaha! Attack!" Amaya was the first to jump off the ship, rocketing forward to kill the first person she could see.
The unlucky guy didn’t even know when his head was chopped off.
"It’s time to party!" The wind picked up around her, and she started to hover slightly off the ground. She dashed around the fort, now split in two, as if she had roller skates on as she cut down any foe that crossed her path.
"Alright, everyone, attack!" Gwen flew off the ship, and Sasha followed behind her.
"For our home!" The spirits followed them into battle and engaged in the fight that would determine the fate of their world.
Over in another part of the fort, the demon Knight who ruled claimed this land was furious. He had been meditating, trying to fully claim the orb for his own and incorporate its power into himself, when the fort was attacked.
"Sir! We’re under attack!" A human messenger informed him.
"Really? I just thought the fort was trying its hand at renovation." The demon Knight killed the messenger, looking at the massive trail of destruction the mana beam left in its wake.
"I’m going to fucking slaughter whoever dared to step foot on this island." He took off into the air, the orb floating behind him, and joined the battle.
